Project summary

This project, shared between two countries, is aimed at analyzing our differences and our common ground through time and across different generations, focusing on different fields: technology, art, literature, history and cultural heritage, music, science and sports. In this way, students will not only reflect on how the world they live in is different from the one their parents and grandparents lived in, but they will also become familiar with the evolution of a fellow European country through history in different fields. The main objective of this project is for students to research about and to find value in their own national cultural heritage and achievements as well as in other countries, eventually finding common values we all share and hypothesizing about the world they want to live in and what kind of planet they want to leave for future generations. Being acquainted with lifestyles, traditions and cultures other than their own will allow students to become active members of an European society in constant change. They must be prepared to adapt to foreign societies and cultures, in a world where interactions between European countries is becoming more and more frequent both in professional and personal spheres. Students will follow a project-based learning approach, in an interdisciplinary way, using German, Spanish and English as lingua franca to carry out the tasks, and English as the shared language to present their projects while they are together in both countries. Thus, they will also improve their English language skills. Being a two-year project, activities will be organized in two components: during the first year, we will focus on the past and the present whereas in the second year; students will deliberate on their view of the future. Therefore, students will be able to establish links between how past events can influence the future in which they will live. In order for this analysis to be thorough, the activities carried out in each subject will be interrelated through a common project, they will not be isolated activities within a department. These type of activities will be varied and will be used to lay out the future we want to create. The general objectives of this project arise from the cooperation between two countries and from the collaborative work of students with similar ages led by their teachers but nevertheless students are responsible for their own learning process: -reflecting on their history and social development, and comparing it with other countries, valuing all the aspects that both differentiate and connect us - appreciating their sense of belonging as European citizens - becoming interested in actively participating in a common European project - sharing, analyzing, forming opinions and respecting others, supporting their points of view - valuing diversity (generational and cultural) and analyzing integration processes at different levels - improving foreign language skills, linguistic and communication skills and understanding of different cultures - encouraging collaborative working environments between students, teachers from the same and from different departments, and among different schools - promoting mobility within educational environments and fostering an interest in traveling and getting to know different cultures - reinforcing the European dimension in learning environments - facilitating equal opportunities across all educational sectors - improving the use of information and communication technologies in learning environments - encouraging innovation in educational practices and in the design of learning materials - spreading the use of project-based learning tasks among teachers The activities to be carried out in this project will help students reflect on the type of society they want to live in and the type of citizens they want to become. They will design a set of goals, similar to the UN 17 Global Goals, for each of their countries. These goals will be created based on all the information they have obtained through their projects, so that their ideas and decisions are well-founded. The specific results we want to achieve are: - "European Goals " for a future society, designed with digital collaborative tools (Genial.ly) - A digital book containing the activities completed by students during the two-year project and divided into three sections: past, present and future. Both elements are easy to make public using social networks associated with the school.

Final report summary

The goals of the project have been maintained throughout the duration of the project. However, the activities and methodology have had to be modified due to the pandemic. PROJECT CONTEXT/BACKGROUND We began this project in the 2019/20 school year with a German school with whom we had personal ties but with whom we had never worked together. In the middle of the first year of the project, due to the Covid pandemic, students from both countries had to be confined to their homes three weeks after the first mobility in Spain. This led to the cancellation of the second mobility in Germany, which had to be replaced by a virtual mobility. This virtual mobility was carried out the following year, in 2020/21, once the schools were able to organize and adapt to this new situation. We requested an extension of the project for one more year, since in Spain, the students attended classes in a blended learning model and in Germany they continued with an online model from their homes. That year, 2020/2021, the work within the Erasmus project was reduced in terms of student and teacher participation due to the exceptional circumstances we were facing, which made the development of the project very difficult. Even so, we carried out a joint project (Blue Zones Project) in which students from both countries participated. The following year, 2021/22, in which both schools returned to full attendance, we continued with the implementation of activities while we began organising future mobilities. Unfortunately, the mobility in Spain had to be cancelled due to high contagion peaks, but it was replaced by virtual mobilities carried out during one week. The mobility in Germany in May 2022, in which those students who had not been able to travel during the first year, but who had hosted German students in their homes during the first mobility, were also able to participate. OBJECTIVES The objectives of the project were maintained throughout the project and are specified in the Project Summary section. To these, we should add another important one that encouraged us to organize the final mobility despite the circumstances, and to promote virtual mobilities throughout the pandemic: the attempt to motivate the students and to take them away from the harsh reality they had been living for two years; in short, to take care of their mental health. DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES The first year of the project we focused on the past and comparison with the present; activities such as: - "Get to Know Each Other" presentation activity by students from both centers. - Inter- generations interviews (students, parents, grandparents): students compared and analyzed the answers given by their parents and grandparents with their own. - Interviews with characters from the past: students became journalists to design interviews with characters from the past. - Renaissance inventions: students researched Renaissance inventions and inventors. - Timeless paintings: students recreated photos of famous paintings, and recreated them as the painting would have been done in the present and in the future. - Face-to-face mobility in Spain. With workshops at school and cultural visits to Madrid, Segovia and Toledo. In the second and third year of the project, we focused on the future and its comparison with the present: - Blue Zones project: the students worked in groups on a local city project to turn it into a Blue Zone. - Virtual mobilities: in which students worked in mixed nationality groups to create a Blue Zone European city project. - Podcasts: Ecological project, Hopes and Fears for the Future, - Project: Sustainable Development Goals - News from the future - Health: using technology to improve our health - Luminous lights workshop - Exploring Madrid - Virtual mobility: Sustainable Development Goals workshop, Sports Events, Exploring Madrid, Kahoot, Awards Ceremony, - Face-to-face mobility in Germany, with workshops at the school and cultural visits. EXPECTED LONG-TERM RESULTS AND BENEFITS - Improve communicative competence in other languages. - ability to understand, adapt to and learn from different cultures - ease of moving and working in an international environment - strengthened personal development, confidence, independence, responsibility, and self-esteem - Improved social interactions, negotiation and adaptation to new circumstances and contexts. - Promoting the internationalization of the center - Increasing project and interdisciplinary work and making it an essential methodology in the work of the teaching staff. - Collaboration in future projects between both schools: eTwinning; Erasmus, sustainable centers,... - greater involvement of families in the school and their children's learning process
