Project summary

Social integration and sustainability are two of the most important challenges facing European cities. In particular the cities of the participating schools have peculiarities in these aspects (Bari, place of arrival of a great number of refugees who have crossed the Mediterranean fleeing from hunger, violence and wars, Castelló has an important Romanian community) that make this project relevant and are going to suppose a benefit for the whole society. The activities included in this project will allow knowing; how the cities integrate the newcomers, and how they act in the face of the need to have a sustainable development. The participating students who studied Technology and Architecture were responsible for working on sustainability by developing prototypes and designing efficient solutions in buildings. The rest of the students were dedicated to studies, research ... of social integration. These works were developed with collaborative methods that allowed students from different countries to work on the same project, for this they used work platforms and communication via the Internet (eTwinning, Google Drive and others). This helped to improve the internationalization of the participating schools, the skills in training tools and remote work and increased the employability of the participants. The chronology of the project was as follows: Phase in schools 1: In a first phase students from Bari (Italy), from Pitești (Romania) and from Castelló (Spain) posed and designed in their centres the: studies, surveys, prototypes, building solutions and other similar works related to the theme of this project that they intend to carry out. Mobility 1: The students presened: the ideas of construction of prototypes and solutions in sustainable buildings, research on integration, surveys ... and they received advice to improve these ideas by the rest of the participants. To complete this, visits, talks and workshops on sustainability and social integration were scheduled. Phase in centres 2: With the ideas and advice received and the skills acquired in the rest of the activities, students began to develop and they completed the studies, surveys, prototypes and solutions in buildings. studies, surveys, build prototypes, design solutions in buildings ... Mobility 2: the students presented the sustainable prototypes, the solutions in buildings and its operation, as well as the conclusions obtained with the research on integration, surveys ... and received the opinions of the rest of the participants. A final activity of this mobility it was obtained the conclusions of the participants about the work developed and the study of measures for the dissemination of achievements in the society. The activities included in this project have allowed us to work and reflect on how to integrate the disadvantaged and how to act in the face of the need for sustainable development and social integration, two of the most important challenges facing European cities. The participating students studying Technology in Spain and Architecture in Romania have worked sustainability developing prototypes and designing efficient solutions in buildings. The rest of the students have developed studies, researches... of social integration. These works were developed with platforms of work and communication by internet (eTwinning, GoogleDrive and others). Another important part of the project has been the artistic creations that students have developed. The dynamic was that the Spanish students after making a literary workshop with writers from the province, made poems and stories that sent Italian students. They performed them and added a graphic, visual or musical creation. The Romanian students prepared a theatrical performance. All this has been carried out in the 24-month duration of the project (and it still has continuity in the eTwinning platform with new participating centers). The project has been affected by the pandemic, but we have tried to turn it into an opportunity. The fact of having to extend the duration of the project has allowed the participation of many students in the three schools (more than 100 students in the IES Penyagolosa, about 75 students in the CN Cirillo and more than 50 in the Vitorul). Some of those who started the project have not been able to participate in the mobilities that are the culmination because they have already left schools. It has also provided an opportunity to improve skills in training tools and distance work. Another advantage has been to improve internationalization by incorporating new partners (from Germany, Italy, Poland and Austria) in the eTwinning project (id 188711) parallel. The TwinSpace platform of the project has been a crucial tool in the development of the project and in the extension and continuation of it at present and in future courses. The timeline of the project has been this: Phase in the centres (from the start of the project until October 2021): Students from Bari (Italy), Piteti (Romania) and Castelló (Spain) will form groups composed of students from the three schools, will propose and design in their schools: studies, surveys, prototypes, Building solutions and other similar work related to the theme of this project aim to carry out. For this they used collaborative tools such as those offered by eTwinning or Google Drive and developed in their centers studies, surveys, prototypes, solutions in buildings... During this period some joint activities were carried out such as virtual meetings to maintain contact at a distance of the students and to share the evolution of the different works. This has involved the use of an innovative and participatory methodology with gamification activities, ABP, learning by projects and problems, flipped classroom... Mobility to Bari and Castellón (9/10/21-16/10/21 and 16/10/21-22/10/21): First in Bari and then in Castelló, the students presented the sustainable prototypes, the solutions in buildings and their operation, as well as the conclusions obtained with the research... and received the opinions of the rest. In addition, other visits and workshops related to the themes of the project were scheduled. A final activity of this mobility will be to obtain the conclusions and feelings of the participants on the work developed and on the lived experience. They also produced press articles and other products to be used in dissemination. Romanian students faced with the impossibility of travelling to Italy and Spain participated virtually in these two mobilities. During the development of the project the activities of the project have seen recognized their interest with the appearance in the press, the participation in an international congress on sustainability, the achievement of different regional awards, and the reception by different local and regional authorities. The project has also appeared in the Erasmus days. The project has met all the objectives set with an impact on more students and teachers than expected, improving language competence, raising awareness on topics addressed... The benefits for society have been better than expected, as more families have participated. The centres have improved their internationalisation, gained prestige and the project will continue in the future with new partners from new countries. One of the institutions has achieved Erasmus+ accreditation thanks to the experience in this project and the other two are considering applying.
