“Rural Olympics” is the first part of the bilateral Project called “Challenge to change, challenge to exchange - alternative for a healthy inclusive society” and managed by both our Romanian partner and us. During the winter and the spring of 2019, 35 motivated Spanish and Romanian young people chose a great repertory of different popular games through a Facebook and WhatApp group. They prepared the games and organized the pre-Olympics in the local schools, the high schools and the day-care centre of Olvera in order to choose the athletes who will participate in the Rural Olympics which will take place on Saturday, June 29th, when our Romanian partner stay with us. The visit to our country will be between the 24th of June and 1st of July. The program of activities will take place in Olvera, a rural village with a population of 8600 in the north of Cadiz province, included in the Route of the White Villages. Then the young people will meet each other for the first time and they will have the opportunity to enjoy the traditions and popular games that will take place during the Rural Olympics. The participants will be divided into small mixed groups and they will play the different games which have been selected by themselves before the visit. They will have the opportunity to reflect on the causes and try to put themselves in the position of the charity organizations that work in order to help others. We intend that the Rural Olympics will be a benefit activity and they will allow us to receive some donations that will be given during the event. Both the situation and the programmed workshops will allow the participants to think about the importance of helping others and be aware of social issues. They will decide on the local organization to which they will give the collected money. The “Rural Olympics” Project aims to help the young participants to understand the European context which they take place in, learn to socially integrate with people in their own environment, develop themselves in both an individual and social way, learn about the importance of helping others, learn from cultural similarities and differences and acquire healthy habits practising different sports and participating in outdoor activities. In addition, they will meet the Erasmus + Program and at the same time they will be active members of youth exchanges. The Spanish team has been working in the organization of the Project, preparing some different activities and workshops. Apart from the implementation of the Rural Olympics, through the rest of the activities we will show the Romanian group the essence of our area. Because of the cultural differences and the distinct languages, we have planned a series of activities like intercultural workshops, guided tours, tasting typical dishes, sport circuits, regional dances, social circles, popular games, bicycle routes, alternative nights… for all of this, we will use a dynamic and fun methodology based on the basic principles of the cultural activities like dynamics and games. We aim to show the traditions and popular games of both countries to the public who want to be involved. In this way, the participants will feel that they are capable of organizing a big event with the input of the community and they can help others, even collecting money for a local organization in a short period of time. The long-term benefits for participants will be the experience and confidence gained by organizing events and recovering local traditions, as well as working in groups and providing personal knowledge and skills. The Project will be kept recorded and used by other countries and young workers as an example.
