Objectives

The succession of terrorist attacks in Europe involving young people who were born and raised in Europe, as well as the rise in incidents of hate-crime and xenophobia, highlighted that in order to maintain open and inclusive societies, radicalization leading to violent extremism has to be prevented at an early stage. Issues like youth unemployment and upcoming waves of refugees in our local communities can lead to radical changes among marginalized young people. Our consortium agreed on several issues of concern that can be addressed through this project in order to prevent youth radicalization.Issues were identified through a SWOT analysis and were developed in the application of this form: “Youth Mindset Against Radicalization” or simply “YMAR” training course aims to address youth radicalization by offering training on understanding the phenomenon of radicalization, on prevention strategies and methods to be used and also by fostering cooperation between key actors. Our main objectives are to prevent youth radicalization by improving the methods applied by youth workers and create a common agenda in the topic of youth radicalization. Specific objectives: 1.Equip 24 youth workers from 8 partner countries with organizational abilities, resources/methods and required competencies on youth inclusion, social cohesion, intercultural dialogue, integration and conflict management, as tools of prevention of youth radicalization–competences gathered through thematic workshops, study visits and local actions with marginalized youth, in a period of 7 days mobility in Roda de Bará. 2. Contribute to the recognition and visibility of good practice and new methods/strategies used to fight youth radicalization, reached through the development of a dedicated Guide on radicalization’s prevention that will be elaborated by youth workers directly on-site and after the completion of the TC. 3. Raise awareness about radicalization of young people in 8 local communities through specific actions like public meetings, round tables with interested actors in each community and other actions also developed in the follow-up. Other objectives: 1. Increase the expertise of 8 partner organizations/institutions (24 Youth Workers) in working with young people in risk of radicalization by training YW on this topic and creating specific instruments/strategies that they can use in their own activity (Guide) 2. Facilitate cooperation between youth organizations and local stakeholders (City Halls, Politicians, NGOs) on this topic by inviting them to follow-up activities implemented in each partner community by YW.
