Objectives

In a time when Europe is facing uncertainty, while it is being challenged by multiple crisis, economic instability, Brexit, refugee crisis, many citizens are falling under the temptation to join either extremist or populist groups that are moving away from the original European idea, towards more xenophobic and authoritarian views, as such groups gain popularity by the day. As demonstrated by elections and referendums across many European countries, and the anti-EU movements gaining momentum. Young people, are amongst the most vulnerable to the messages spread by such groups, as are also the ones most affected by the economic uncertainties and the ones who feel most distant from the representative democracies they live in. In this scenario youth workers and youth organizations are ill equipped to face and counter the powerful and professional public communication of the hate-groups. The purpose of this training course is to equip youth organizations and youth workers with the necessary tool to be a voice as well, to be heard and follow, and to deliver their message, much different from the loud "hate" one, which is being heard more and more. “YOUth are the voice” is a training course that aims to support the professional development of young leaders and youth workers to raise the quality of their social media campaigns and knowledge on different platforms aiming social change. We will approach the idea of communication on different levels and include a hands-on Media Laboratory which will be the real practice. The training course uses methods of experiential learning as role plays, simulations and case study methods and group sharing methods as small and large group discussions. "YOUth are the voice" is designed to take place in Granada having a length of 7 days with 27 youth workers youth leaders, current or potential board members or volunteers from 10 countries will work together in order to set personal and professional goals and have the self-confidence to carry them out, to guide others on a course of action, to influence their behavior, and show them the way. The activity will take place from 17-23/10/2019. Travelling days will be 16/10 (arrival) and 24/10 (departure). The non- formal participatory methods that will be utilized include simulation games, role play, plenary debates, interactive lectures, audio-visual presentations, brainstorming, small and large group discussions, self- assessment and more. All working activities will aim at fostering intercultural learning and exchange between participants from diverse backgrounds and young people with fewer opportunities.
