Objectives

Seminar 'Equal Volunteering Opportunities for All' will take place in Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain) from 29 July to 5 August 2019, including one travel day, to bring together NGO leaders and youth workers from 13 countries, who are in charge of the voluntary programs and initiatives , being organized by the different promoter organizations , with the primary aim to learn from each other how to foster the participation of young people who are refugees, asylum seekers or migrants to take active part in NGO's and civil society activities and programs. They will learn by sharing and reflecting on their own personal and professional experience, in one hand, and NGO's educational approach and own capacities in the other hand. The 4 general objectives of the project are: - To learn how to be more inclusive to people with a diverse cultural background, both in theory and practice. -To learn how to diversify, increase and improve the support NGOs are given to young people who are migrants, refugees and part of a cultural minority in order to encourage them to become leaders of new projects and activities. - To encourage a real exchange of ideas, information, tools, methodologies, practices, activities and projects regarding integration of third national countries in promoter organizations. -To promote cooperation and networking among youth workers (volunteer leaders, managers and supervisors) and NGOs active in the field of non formal learning, volunteering and voluntary service at European level. The 4 specific objectives are: -To learn/understand the basics of intercultural competence, intercultural communication and intercultural learning methodology as an strategy for active social inclusion. - To reflect and learn how to implement ICL methodology to identify, develop and recognize these competences in each promoter organization, especially when recruiting/ managing/supporting volunteers with a different cultural background and life experience. - To share inspiring stories, practices and experience, successful or not, we can learn from to empower this target group to become active volunteers, leaders and citizens. -To collect and spread the inspiring tools, ideas, practices and experience at local, regional and national level in our communities and at European and international level. Participants will work to identify, develop and recognize no less than 6 of the 8 key competences for lifelong learning (knowledge, skills and attitudes) along with the 5 specific key competences (knowledge, skills and attitudes) we are suggesting to focus on during the activity are: 1) Volunteer management; 2) intercultural communication; 3) cultural diversity management; 4) conflict management and 5) global awareness. Participants will learn basic concepts and theories of intercultural leadership, intercultural learning, intercultural communication, conflict management (to identify, prevent, manage and transform a conflict) and global education as well, to increase awareness about the global context defined by the inequalities and unfair north-south political and economical relationships, the long lasting negative effects of centuries of colonialism and culture of war, etc. This will help us gain a wider perspective and awareness of global issues, while learning about its current impact on human, economical, social, political and environmental challenges in Europe and in the countries of origin of young migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
