As topics for the project we have chosen two of the Youth goals, that have been decided on in April 2018 in Sofia by the EU-Youth summit, which is connecting youth with EU (Youth Goal 1) and the development of a green and sustainable Europe (Youth Goal 10). Last impulse for choosing this topic was the speech of 15 years old Greta Thunberg at the Climate Summit in Katowice 2018, which had a real impact on our youth groups. So one of the overall goals of the project is achieving a society in which all young people are environmentally active, educated and able to make a difference in their everyday lives. We want them to understand that nowadays we consume in a way that our environment can’t handle. Society needs to act against climate change and the growing environmental threats. But our society cannot solve a problem that it is not willing to acknowledge. That is why everyone including young people have to start taking responsibility for their actions, and impact on the life of future generations. We want to make them understand that becoming sustainable is not a choice but an obligation. Global warming and plastic waste in our oceans are two of the most obvious and challenging global problems and concerns of young people in Europe. The photos of sea-turtles and wales with plastic bags in their mouths and icebears on melting ground are shocking and awakening, knowing that plastic waste never disappears and earth temperature is rising. Europe's future will be built by young people. This is why they need to be empowered to develop the capacities and skills to help tackle the challenges of global environmental duties like stopping climate change and avoiding plastic waste. One third of the EU population is under the age of 30. The future of our continent will be shaped and experienced by these 170 million young Europeans. In the sense of the European Commission's Youth for Climate Action Initiative we will empower young people to seize on the spirit of renewal and regeneration that is encapsulated in the Paris Agreement, and to shape their future together, across borders. "We in Europe -youth in action and dialogue" will foster the development of a European belonging or a European identity. We will strengthen the resilience of our core group in order to fight exclusion, nationalism and xenophobia. We aim to raise awareness about opportunities of active participation in public EU life, and by fostering the sense of belonging to the European Community. The project will provide the young people with an opportunity to actively participate in debates on European issues at European level. They will understand, that they have the possibility, the rights and the duty to influence European politics for a better. We have chosen two major global environmental problems in order to demonstrate the added value and the deeper sense of the European integration process and the European Union to the young participants. These examples makes it very clear and obvious, that environmental pollution can´t be stopped by frontiers. Global warming and plastic waste are problems without boundaries. So we need international cooperation to fight these challenges. And the EU is one very special supranational Organisation, where 27/28 European countreis work together to solve their special problems, to find common ground, and defend common values. At the end of the 10-days-project we want to have one group, that has developed a we-feeling, a feeling of community in Europe and a sense of European belonging and identity. Within the dissemination and the follow up process the young participants will be multipliers and ambassadors for spreading the project outcome under their community and the core group .
