Objectives

This project is about organizing a six-day training for youth workers, who serve adolescents with fewer opportunities, to deepen the learning of methodologies and strategies aimed at strengthening the self-esteem and self-confidence of these young people. The training meeting will be held at CiudadEscuela Muchachos in Madrid during the first week of September, 2019. In total, there will be participants from 10 organizations from Belgium, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Romania, Spain, and Turkey. The work methodology should create a dynamic, experiential and interactive training through the exchange of Good Practices and the joint reflection of the participants coming from these European organizations, within the unique and pedagogical environment of CEMU, and thanks to the learning atmosphere fostered by facilitators and expert professionals in the following areas of intervention: • Youth participation • Emotional intelligence of adolescents • Educators as positive role models and theory of attachment •Communication skills for teens • Employment guidance and employability for young people On this occasion, CEMU wishes to resume the International Meetings of Educators, which have always had excellent levels of participation and appreciation by the attendees. In fact, the Third International Encounter of Educators, held in 2010, obtained a “Quality Recognition of Training Projects” by INJUVE (Ministry of Health, Social Policy and Equality). We have identified the following training needs for educators, who work directly with adolescents in situations of vulnerability or who have fewer opportunities, to promote these teens´ self-esteem: • Provide access to more opportunities for motivating youth to motivate youth in order to build their self-confidence • Tools to empower youth through Participation • Mechanisms and strategies to nurture their individual self-esteem (Emotional Intelligence) • Tools to develop a relationship of mutual trust between youth and their education • Teaching communication and social skills • Personal Emancipation Itinerary (labor orientation, professional training, and education possibilities) • Share Good Practices with others regarding social inclusion and about the themes of this training Main aim: • Tools and strategies for youth workers to create opportunities to overcome fears and develop self confidence among adolescents in situations of vulnerability Concrete objectives for youth workers: • Commitment of participants from start to finish of the project • Active engagement of participants during the project, in searching for Good Practices and in the organization of the main activity • Improve communication skills in an intercultural environment • Learning other strategies and methodologies to better do their job We understand that the proposed objectives will contribute: 1. To support the participants in the meeting (professionals who work with this group of adolescents) to improve their knowledge in different dimensions of their daily tasks by finding new ways to promote the self-esteem of adolescents. 2. Thanks to the eminently practical and interactive approach of the training program (workshops, non-formal education activities, roundtables and debates, meetings outside the classroom), the improvement of competence of participants in other languages is encouraged, as well as the understanding of people from other cultures and from other social environments, which undoubtedly contributes to fostering the shared spirit of European citizenship. 3. To create an environment where youth workers attending can share the ideas and reach conclusions about the training experience, and later on share these with their colleagues and organizations upon their return home. Probably, they will also learn techniques and tools that can be part of their future pedagogical strategy with these adolescents. 4. To establish bonds of personal friendship and professional relations between the participants and the partner-organizations, which share an objective population to which they offer their services, with the hope that I will continue the exchange of experiences in the future to improve their general action and their socio-educational programs for teenagers with fewer opportunities.
