Objectives

Since 2001, the Mojo de Caña association has been working with and for the young people of the Canary Islands, implementing different activities and projects, which transversally support the personal development of young people, promote human rights, promote social inclusion and citizen participation, etc. In 2012 we started the youth exchange, called Circus for Inclusion. The 2019 edition would be the eighth consecutive, hosting European circus schools on the island of Gran Canaria, in the month of October. The objectives and mission have been maintained, despite always trying to adjust them to current realities and emerging needs. Circus is a powerful communicative tool that serves as an element of reflection. The working methods will be participatory, horizontal and will include workshops, space for exchanges of experiences and reflections, essays and representations on the street. We want to inspire young users of activities to see the importance of citizen participation, critical thinking and social awareness. All this, working in a holistic development of young people in the non-formal education and circus programs, always trying values and objectives of the ERASMUS program. The phenomenon of immigration has had a special impact in the Canary Islands. The theme of integration and coexistence seems fundamental in a world where it is increasingly easy to live and live in other countries, but the barriers that prevent the integration of individuals. Entire societies are divided between cultures and religions. We want young people to be inspired by this theme, and then be able to turn them into active figures within their equal communities. Therefore, special emphasis will be placed on integration, social exclusion and the vulnerable situation of human rights in the different European countries. Something that is of fundamental importance nowadays, in a Europe challenged by humanitarian crisis. Always working with social circus as a tool of expression, freedom, creativity and union. Young artists will use their talents as a universal language to address issues of inclusion, human rights and diversity, overcoming linguistic and social barriers. This year is the intention of Mojo de Caña, as coordinating entity is to bring together 34 young people, from Greece, Italy, Finland, Hungary and Spain, within the Circus project, We have a problem, from 13/10 to 22/10. The partners have participated in (some) previous editions, and once again visit us for 9 days to continue working in an inclusive society, supporting the values of equity and diversity. The purpose of this exchange is to use the circus and street theater, to address issues such as social exclusion, social diversity, acceptance, integration and pluralism in Europe today. Social inclusion should be a participatory process, where young people can and should react according to their needs, circumstances and possibilities. All the activities implemented before, during and after the exchange, as the transversal objectives: - Open a space for intercultural dialogue, using the circus as a tool for work, expression and exchange highlighting the importance of human rights and their protection and promoting multicultural work through the creation of a final show created by the / As own participants, from respect, tolerance and the inclusion of diversity. - use team work to highlight the importance of social diversity, intercultural learning and open dialogue, as well as the participation and expression of young people in the community, motivate them to be part of it, highlighting the importance of thinking critical and proactive role within the community. - Promote the feeling of belonging to the European community among young users (direct and indirect) as well as promote the values and concepts of the ERASMUS + program; Work with children in the neighborhoods of the island, It will be more widespread and urban development will be promoted, work with children in irrigation, young people with functional and intellectual diversity, migrants, etc. - We have a problem: create sustainable activities that can be carried out. We must emphasize the importance of the GALA solidarity, the performance of the show created by the group throughout the week. With the support of the theater CICCA of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, since 2017 we have the possibility to act on the front of 400 people on the island, thus raising the benefits for the entity working for social inclusion. The money collected is allocated to the entity in question in its entirety. Thanks to the action of 2018, we have obtained almost € 2,000 that have been donated to the APADIS association.
