Objectives

In the municipal strategy of Lempäälä employees are encouraged to do goal-orientated and pleasant work, which they can affect themselves. Well being at work, managing the work load and employees` working capacity are looked after. "See the good" is not only a slogan for us but we want to implement itin our school through positive actions and positive thinking. The main goals of this project are teachers ́ professional development, improvement in well-being at school and positive progress in the culture of our school. Teachers who participate in the courses get new ideas and boost in their teaching, which also reinforces well-being.The system of teams plays an important role in the positive progress of the culture as well as in the organizational structure of the school. The system is new and it is being developed continuously, for example by educating team leaders. Each member of staff is heard in his or her team and takes part in developing the culture of school. Like development, school leadership requires updating and staying up to date. Implementing new curricula is carried out under leadership in which the principal, administrative team and team organization are crucial. New insights and fresh international ideas are very important in developing the school. In this project there are 11 teachers who have different and several roles as class or subject teachers, special needs teachers, form teachers, team members or leaders and tutors. They apply for one-week school education courses in Europe. These teachers are committed to the developmen tof the school and they are more than willing to share their knowledge to the personnel.

Background

The number of students who require special needs support has increased remarkably in recent years. At the same time the number of students per class has grown but the resources for special needs teaching have been reduced. Teachers are experiencing growing feelings of stress, get more tired at work and cannot give their best at work. What can be done in this situation? The main goals of this project are teachers ́ professional development, improvement in well-being at school and positive progress in the culture of our school. The changes that take place at school community, such as changing personnel, growing number of students and lacking facilities, present challenges year after year. The quality of the indoor air at school has been inspected and some class rooms have been closed due to a problem in the indoor air. There is a growing need for support in well-being.In addition to team spirit different means are needed to prevent stress growing into exhaustion. Better methods for implementing inclusion, participation, European collaboration and professional development are means by which we want to boost well-being at school. Since it is not possible for us to change the school building or its facilities, we intend to use intangible means to support well-being as well as improve the culture of our school. New insights and fresh international ideas are very important in developing the school. In this project there are 11 teachers who have different and several roles as class or subject teachers, special needs teachers, form teachers, team members or leaders and tutors. They apply for one-week school education courses in Europe. These teachers are committed to the development of the school and they are more than willing to share their knowledge to the personnel. Our earlier Erasmus Ka1 project had great impact on our school and the experiences were positive. It was our teachers´ wish to take part in a new project.
