Objectives

The aim of this Erasmus project was to complete the strategy of diverse leadership and inclusive school culture. Also the plan was to get this strategy in practice. Practical models for operational diverse leading were needed. The work group's aim during the project was to create and complete the strategy of learning and arranging the needed support for children in Pori. The strategy also included updating plans for know-how for the entire staff of local Education and Culture Department: principals, teachers, assistants and the management. The main purpose of the special education teachers of early childhood education was to create such inclusive operational models that are suitable for all children. With their help all of the staff in the kindergartens in Pori hoped to get new ways to deepen their know-how about involvement, learning and accessible communication with children who need assistance. Early childhood special needs education and basic education needed a working transition phase, the continuation of common practices and fitting assistance models for each individual throughout the pupil’s school years.

Background

The parties involved in the city of Pori ’s consortium project were the special education development work group of the Department of Education, special education teachers of early childhood education and the teaching staff of Itätuuli Comprehensive School and Tuulikello School for pupils of special needs. The aim of the project was to create operational models about the strategies and practices of inclusive teaching throughout the pupil’s school years from early childhood to the end of comprehensive school. We hoped that our shared project should have created possibilities for natural discussion between the management, the schools and early childhood education.
