We wanted to develop the pedagogy of the new schools to match the latest curriculum, and that we could make the most of the flexible learning environments of the new school buildings. The idea was also to update didactic and pedagogical tools that could also be used to prevent exclusion and school dropout. At the same time, we would be equipped to accept students with an immigrant background. Seen from this context, it is possible to instill a stronger European identity by involving students.
We applied for the project because two new schools were built in Ylivieska, Kaisaniemi School and Taanila Unified School. In the years 2017-2021, we operated in a slice school, where the staff worked in many different places and there was little cooperation and training. The idea was that before moving to new premises, it would be good for us to create a new operating culture and strengthen the sense of community. We also needed new tools, teaching methods and operating methods to develop teaching. The project made it possible for teachers to train in a variety of ways and thus prepare for the smoothest possible start of operation of future schools in new schools. The areas of digital skills, operational culture and change management were considered particularly important.
