Objectives

The main goal was to develop Järvenpää Adult Education Centre as a place where social inclusion is strong, which more precisely meant involving and engaging hard-to-reach customers, developing the JAEC's operating culture to strengthen social inclusion, increasing the involvement of part-time teachers in development and decision-making, and also involving permanent staff. In order to develop social inclusion, our goal was to develop teachers' pedagogical and substantive skills, to diversify our range of courses, to develop and enrich course courses, to develop a culture of action and to increase European cooperation. The aim is also to get acquainted with new learning environments and digital learning platforms, to develop digitalisation and the use of new technologies as promoters of inclusion. With the project, we also wanted to strengthen the internationality of the JAEC and network with other European adult educators.

Background

Through this project, Järvenpää Adult Education Centre (JAEC) wanted to renew and develop through international cooperation. Before the project, we felt that we needed to develop our skills in internationalization and building social inclusion. We wanted to diversify our educational content in order to reach new customer groups and increase customer numbers. We wanted to develop the participation of hard-to-reach customers in our courses and identify barriers to participation. In addition, our goal was to develop the structures and the operating culture of the JAEC, as well as the content and pedagogy of teaching, so that we could improve customers social inclusion. The long-term goal is to find new models of cooperation with various actors, also internationally. The aim was also to establish international co-operation as a permanent way of operating and to find new innovative ways of working in a change-friendly and networked operating culture.
