Objectives

HELP ME TO HELP - URBAN SOCIAL PROJECT is an exchange programme between Finland, Spain and the United Kingdom, where 30 participants prepare and implement a solidarity project during one week in Helsinki, July 2019. The vision behind the project is to offer teenagers with a first-hand experience of volunteering and solidarity in an inspiring way, so that they themselves will in the future act as actors of positive social change in their countries. This vision is implemented by getting 28 young people to prepare, run and undertake various social projects during one week. The team leaders are involved helping them prepare the activities and offering them the learning tools they might need to carry out the activities. The exchange includes also various useful skills in the form of interactive presentations and workshops that are designed by the participants and foster doing good and enjoying doing it. One important goal of the project is to put in contact youngsters from various backgrounds and to foster social mobility. One expected effect of this is to induce a positive attitude towards the meeting of cultures, and to reduce attitudes such as nationalism, racism or closeness to international cooperation. The project also aims to get in touch with new volunteers and present to them with positive activities and channels to be active sources of social change. This is done mainly through the activities of the exchange, so that the participants see their ability to improve social situations in practice. Finally, the project aims to create a safe learning-to-learn environment, where the participants learn by doing and by sharing experiences with one another.
