Objectives

The basis for our project comes from the youth’s concern over inequality, discrimination and prejudice. Multiculturalism is actively present in the media and in people's speeches, although it is not really a new phenomenon. With regard to multiculturalism, it is often forgotten that it includes, in addition to ethnic groups, many other minority groups that remain in the shadows but still experience inequality. The aim of the project is to increase understanding about equality and to learn how we can contribute to the realisation of equality through our own actions. We want to reduce prejudices against other nationalities, cultures and countries. During the project we want to learn how to use non-formal learning tools and to learn things through learning-by-doing and experiencing. We want to find new ways to positively influence the prevailing social climate through art and raise conversation about social disadvantage that we see. All participants are interested in different forms of art, so our aim is that everyone can try something new, and also find different strengths in themselves. During our project we will explore the cultures and minorities by sharing youngsters own experiences and discussing how culture is shown in everyday life. Through peer learning we learn about the diversity of minorities and cultures and what real equality means. In art workshops, we can take the role of discriminated people by using experiential methods and experience what kind of emotions it awakens and discuss about it in a safe environment. Different forms of art, and combinations of them, are an excellent tool for self-expression, and the creative process opens up new perspectives of things and strengthens feeling of togetherness.
