“Developing youth work in camp sites” project seeks to develop the competences of the youth workers who engage in camp activities. The project is designed to respond to the needs of youth workers broadening out their set of practical methods and activities as well as to foster their approaches of work with more challenging groups, such as multicultural or marginalized groups. This project focuses on developing innovative ways to improve the quality of youth work and replicating the best practices in the context of camp activities for children and youths. The project supports international cooperation, exchange of ideas, non-formal education, mutual professional development, as well as language, training and leadership skills. This kind of activity will support the work motivation and life-long learning of the youth workers. In the end of the day, the results will benefit the children and young people participating the camp activities as the instructors and youth workers are better equipped to meet their needs, provide quality experiences and tackle issues like discrimination or radicalization. The Finnish expertise and best practices on how to initiate a new camping site and camp activities will be shared during this activity. The Finnish delegation will provide training for the camp site staff and instructors on organizing safe and high-quality camping activities. The Finnish participants, on the other hand, will gain international experience on training and camp work. Most importantly, Finnish delegation will get first-hand experience on youth work practices in multicultural, multiethnic and diverse context which, in turn, they can use to improve and make the camp work in Finland more inclusive. The group of youth workers and future camp instructors from Kosovo will have a chance to visit different camp sites in Finland while the regular summer camp activities are in full speed. This opens up the possibility to see how the whole process of quality camping experience in organized practically in real life circumstances with tens of children and youth present, from the preparations to the evaluation phase. The advanced training is built to support the development of the instructor training path for the future camp instructors and leaders in Kosovo. The roadmap for the future of the camping activities in Kosovo’s youth work sector will be developed. In addition to this, the project includes mutual learning on Sustainable Development Goals, Youth, Peace and Security agenda, and how to do advocacy and make youth voice heard. At its best, camp environment is proven to be an excellent platform to promote shared values and goals such as social cohesion, tolerance, equality and dialogue between different groups, youth engagement, active citizenship and social responsibility. Camp activities invite people from different backgrounds to engage in concrete joint activities and to pursue common goals. Evidently, this develops cooperating skills, provides encounters of different worldviews and activates the participants to be self-imposed and take responsibility of their own actions. Furthermore, participants and instructors share the same living circumstances in camp sites which reinforces equal treatment of all. The proximity of nature in outdoor activities highlights also the importance of ecological awareness and sustainability. In addition to all this, camping activities develop various practical and useful skills and knowledge that benefit participants in their everyday lives. The action is in line with the objectives of the Erasmus+ program and the key action one and its 2019 priorities. It is also designed to support the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250, Youth, Peace and Security.
