This project comes based on the initiative and need of our Armenian partners. Looking from Armeinan side - Youth work in Armenia is only in its initial stages of development – both in terms of policy and practice. Although there is a youth work charter adopted by the Government in 2015, there are practically no tools and support for developing youth work in Armenia. At the same time our organisation Gyumri “Youth Initiative Centre” NGO, having seen many good examples of how youth work supports the development of young people and communities in Europe, undertook the establishment of the FIRST EVER OPEN youth centre in Armenia “Youth House”, in one of the most vulnerable neighbourhoods of Gyumri. The centre started to operate in spring 2018, marking a new stage of youth work development in Armenia, which makes our organization very proud and at the same time very much responsible for setting the solid ground for future similar youth centres. Having no other examples to learn from at the local and national levels, the development of open youth work in Armenia largely depends on the exchange of experience at the international level. In the past, the team members of YIC have had chance to be part of study visits and training courses regarding youth work, but we see a more pressing need to learn from the daily tasks of more experienced colleagues which is possible in through job shadowing only. Looking from our point of view, unlike in Armenia, the Finnish youth work has years of history of development and currently it is considered one of the most developed ones in the world. And after participating in a short Study Visit to Finland in October 2018, YIC team started to look for ways and partners who could open up their work to us for a job shadowing opportunity as we already saw many interesting topic we would like to learn further about. Looking from the Finnish side - Youth centre Marttinen has experience in youth work since 25 years. These experience gives us and expert status on such activities and working methods as adventure education, social youth work and formal/non-formal education cooperation. As one of our key focuses we've also been taking an active role in activating and informing other regional youth organisations about international possibilities but also recently taking a more active role on international level to support organisations - This role and responsibility has grown mainly due to the fact that Marttinen has recently been awarded the Council of Europe's Quality Label for Youth Centres. Through this role we are also expected to support CoE agenda as well as willing to share our experiences with anyone who is interested in it - and that we are doing wit this project. After communicating with the Armenian partners, it became clear that Marttinen with its regional contacts and networks would be easily able to cater for the interest of the partner organisation, and furthermore be able to see the benefits for our own regional development from brining such job shadowers / professionals to our regional partner organisations. Based on these reflections, the partners had a chance to talk about their positions and needs in a common seminar in Prague (November 2018) and came to the idea, that a common practical project could be done to meet both of the partners needs. The objectives of the Job Shadows would be: - Learn from the experience of Finnish youth work with an intention to localise it in Armenia, within and beyond the operations of YIC’s “Youth House” open youth centre in Gyumri; - Build the competences of the youth workers and administrative team of the “Youth House”; - Set ground for a lasting cooperation and networking with the stakeholders in Finnish youth work field. - Further develop the regional internationalization process of Marttinen's region, through offering low entry level opportunities for local youth workers (from small municipalities) to engage on internatinal level
