The project involves cooperation with cultural heritage institutions of partner countries for sharing knowledge and methods, and discovering ways to make cultural heritage more relevant for youth workers and young people , thus contributing to capacity building of youth workers and youth work in EU. By bringing together youth workers and organizations with experience of running heritage-based activities and using methods connected with local history and culture, by inviting representatives of the cultural sector to cooperate with youth workers, such as museums, cultural heritage experts, associations, the project also aims to create a framework for international networking for better cooperation between organisations in the EU, and for the exchange of good practices which will later contribute to preservation and promotion of the European cultural heritage among young people, to the greater engagement of young people with the EU cultural heritage, to the preservation and pass on of the cultural heritage of each EU country to the next generations through youth work, and how cross-sector cooperation could help preserve cultural heritage and its contribution to job creation, economic growth and social cohesion. Trade Knowledge aimed to share and disseminate best practices and non-formal education activities between partner organizations in order to enhance the quality of youth work with regards to engaging youth with the Cultural Heritage of partner countries and of Europe in general. Additionally, the project aimed to find ways to engage young people with the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of their countries and give them the necessary tools to develop their skills, creativity and entrepreneurship though cultural heritage. The project was designed to raise discussions between youth and culture practitioners from pilot areas on how young people can develop their entrepreneurial mindset through traditional jobs (clay making, fishery, forestry, wine making, olives) and how they can develop their skills and competences on the creation of new innovative ideas on entrepreneurship. And finally, the partnership wanted to develop local level cooperation of youth and culture practitioners to build sustainable networks and give impetus for new initiatives in the field of cultural heritage and youth.
Partner organizations had some experience working with culture and youth programs before the project, and wanted to improve their methods by exchange of good practices. The needs were identified by project partners at the stage of the project application and addressed within the project as follows: 1. To assess how youth work can help preserve and promote European Cultural Heritage and to which extent it is done already in Cyprus, Nurmes, and Slovenia. Project partners got in touch with local practitioners as well to see what is the current extent of youth and culture services and whether local practitioners are interested to develop their work methods. 2. A learning activity was organized to address two needs: to learn from partners their best non-formal education techniques and to improve the skills of youth workers and make new programs in a way to make local culture relevant and interesting to young people. 3. To develop collaboration with local cultural organizations and meeting experts from libraries, museums and traditional craftsmen associations to enhance and boost the engagement of young people with their local cultural heritage. This was addressed by local activities of partners within project implementation period.
