Project summary

Singing diversity This project is born from the desire to make children under 11 years discover Europe, not at a local and theoretical level, but at a practical level by making them live and share an experience, as young and active europeen citizens. The project runs from September 2019 to August 2021. The partners of the project are the Grundschule Grünhain-Beierfeld German School and two schools of Saint-Etienne Auvergne Rhône Alpes region, Gaspard Monge and Tardy. Our three schools come from cities where transnational exchanges are not yet experienced in primary schools. Although exchanges are experienced in the secondary level, we are convinced that if promoted earlier in the school career, the impact of this kind of program are even more efficient. This project's aims to exchange, during two years, two choirs through different digital media. Using music and particularly singing, naturally prevailed because each one of us had a choir organized inside their school. Moreover the use of this practice is very motivating for children, it allows to form a welded and cooperative group. At a school level, singing allows to work different scholar-fields through this particular activity (literary, foreign languages, digital tools). So this singing project was born "singing diversity / Gesang der Die Vielfalt". The choirs are composed of fifteen students from a German school, Grundschule Grünhain-Beierfeld, and twenty students from two Saint-Etienne schools, Gaspard Monge and Tardy. Based on interculturality, the project is design such as : two joint training events for teachers. It will allow a better knowledge of the educational context of the participating countries. Five days school exchanges will be held in France and five days in Germany. It will benefit thirty-five students, allowing them to live a mobility period and intercultural learning. These exchanges will take place in a third place, one per year, with, as a result, a concert in two places. Finally, students will take part in delivering a digital recording from a studio, made during the second meeting, and a Powerpoint presentation. Desired impacts are multiple: First, teachers will improve their pedagogical and linguistic skills as well as their approach of diversity within their schools. For all educational partners, it will be the occasion to witness a concrete project in a primary school. For pupils, discovering and living interculturality will be an openminded experience for them. Active participation of children et educational staf, as well as involvement of children's families in this project could contribute in preventing school dropout, a situation in which many pupils can be confronted. Learning a foreign language will be facilitated by concrete communication situations. Similarly, the use of digital tools, through E-Twinning platform, will take an other dimension, more attached to the reality of children. On another hand, the parents of the pupils will discover a new way of exchanging cultures through their children. The main objective of this project is to fight against school dropout. One of the school is particularly concerned in this matter, as it belongs to a priority area for education. This project is a step to prevent dropping-out of school. In addition, the others children from the school and their families will participate at a different level in the project and will benefit from it. The indicator used to evaluate this added value will be the number of students from schools taking a bilingual option in middle school (statement at n, n + 1 and n + 2), an optional choice, which demonstrate the strong motivation. A long-term effect, thanks to the project's result (concert, article in the newspaper, CDs, school website) will contribute in highlighting Erasmus Plus programme and its possibilities for the educational community and participating cities. So let's sing !

Final report summary

Chantons la diversité / Gesang der Vielfalt This project was born out of the desire to introduce children under 11 years of age to Europe, not on a local and theoretical level, but in practice by having them live and share an experience as young and active European citizens. The project ran from September 2019 to August 2021. The project partners were the German Grundschule Grünhain-Beierfeld and the schools of Saint-Etienne region Auvergne Rhône Alpes, Gaspard Monge and Tardy. Our three schools are from towns where transnational exchange has not yet taken place in primary schools. We started from the idea that an exchange carried out earlier in the schooling process would favour the impact of this type of approach. This project therefore aimed to have two choirs exchange over a two-year period using different digital media. The choice to use singing as a driving force was a natural one, given that each of them had a choir in their school. Moreover, the use of this practice is very motivating for the children, and has enabled them to form a close-knit and cooperative group. From an academic point of view, its use has allowed us to work on different fields in a single activity (literature, foreign languages, digital tools). It consisted of a choir of fifteen pupils from a German school, Grundschule Grünhain-Beierfeld, and a French choir of twenty pupils from two schools in Saint-Etienne, Gaspard Monge and Tardy. Based on the discovery of the other and its culture, the project consisted of two joint training events between education professionals which allowed a better knowledge of the educational context of the participating countries. (Only one exchange between professionals was carried out due to the health situation). Two school exchanges were also planned (of five days allowing thirty five pupils to live a mobility and intercultural experience will take place in France and Germany; in third places at the rate of one per year), but which could not be carried out because of the health situation. Despite the fact that some of the project's actions were cut back, the impact of this project was multiple: Firstly, for the participating teachers who improved their pedagogical and linguistic skills as well as their approach to diversity in their schools. Secondly, for all the educational partners, who, by learning about the project and/or by participating in it, became aware of the feasibility of such an approach in primary schools. Finally, for the pupils who, by discovering and integrating interculturality, have become open to difference. The active participation of the children and the educational teams as well as the involvement of their families in this project contributed to the prevention of school drop-out, a situation that many pupils may face. The learning of foreign languages has been facilitated by real communication situations. In the same way, the use of digital tools through the E-Twinning platform took on another dimension, more anchored in reality. On the other hand, parents have discovered that these exchanges are possible.
