Objectives

Cap Magellan and the partner organizations want to create the project "Better together – Creation of a network for youth employment in Europe" in order to transmit youth workers skills to increase the employability of young people, especially Portuguese-speaking in Europe, over all in the participating countries: France, Portugal, Germany and Austria. Many young people, especially the NEETs (Not in Education, Employment or Training), find themselves in a precarious situation and detached from the labor market and social interactions. Working in a network among different European countries seems to us the most suitable way to find solutions to the current situation of young people in Europe. In our daily work with young people, we have realized that youth leaders often lack the necessary abilities and solutions to increase the employability of young people, especially in the context of migration. Our project was born from these observations. Throughout the training of youth workers during 4 days, a maximum of young NEETs, including migrants from Portuguese-speaking countries (Portugal, Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde) and Portuguese-speaking asylum seekers will be affected. Our main objective is to increase the employability of young people throughout the training of youth workers to provide different non-formal skills. These skills are often underestimated, but they essential in order to help young people becoming active citizens. The skills towards which we are aiming through this training are: - Social skills: to get a job, social skills, such as open-mindedness, sociability, self-confidence and responsibility are needed. How to participate in social, professional and civic life can be learned. Resources: Creative group activities will be organized by our trainers -Civil skills Civic engagement and volunteering will be promoted as a gateway to job market. Resources: presentation of different volunteer programs and ways to value civic skills in the job search -spirit of initiative and entrepreneurship: "ability to turn ideas into actions" The ability to create, innovate and manage projects in order to achieve goals is necessary to encourage youth entrepreneurship. Resources: exercises and games to encourage young people’s creativity. Young entrepreneurs will intervene in a workshop. Their career path may inspire youth workers and through them, the young people in question. Intercultural skills The challenges of youth employment in an intercultural and migration context will be discussed and intercultural competences will be valued. Resources: Role plays to deal with situations of discrimination and valorisation of intercultural skills in job search. Throughout these workshops and trainings, a transnational and sustainable network of youth workers, young entrepreneurs and trainers will be created. In the dialogue between a youth leader who knows the reality of the field work with young people in difficulty and an entrepreneur, who knows the reality of his company, new solutions will emerge. Dialogue between people from different countries will be a great opportunity to be inspired by different approaches in each of the participating countries. Our idea is, based on this network, to renew the project in the following years and explore together different dimensions of youth work. As the meeting will take place in Portugal and the young participants will be mainly Portuguese speakers, it is clear that the project will be conducted in Portuguese. This allows people less familiar to an international environment and who would not speak English to participate. Portuguese language is also undervalued in the international and European context. One of the secondary objectives of the project is to promote this language that young people in our networks often do not consider as an asset, especially in a professional context.
