While the hierarchical, pyramidal management model continues to be the most pervasive among businesses, as well as public and social institutions, it has been under heavy criticism lately in the light of its negative implications for individuals and organisations. New management models are currently emerging, among which shared governance. Youth and social workers are taking interest in this type of governance, because of how it helps create beneficial group dynamics, while also addressing the need for each person involved with a collaborative project to be acknowledged and promotes the empowerment of those people, by encouraging efficiency, creativity and long-lasting organisations. Shared governance offers to broaden the range of actions organisations can take, while encouraging individuals (and most notably young people) to get involved in collaborative projects. Sadly, few youth and social organisations have yet mastered the concept, methods and tools required in order to successfully implement shared governance. This impedes their ability to address the tensions arising in their work teams, keep the members of their organisations motivated, embody the values of democracy and autonomy they advocate for, introduce new members to their action and involve final beneficiaries at the design and implementation stages of the projects geared toward them. It also prevent them from efficiently supporting social entrepreneurs in their efforts to develop their activities and from being able to adjust their management models. Thus, the LEADERSHIFT training course offers to introduce the participants to shared governance, including the methods and practical tools necessary to implement it (into a project or an organisation). This course will also provide an opportunity for the participants to conduct a critical analysis of their current practices, and improve their general leadership, their ability to design and coordinate collaborative projects, and their facilitation, inter-cultural communication and mediation skills. Hence, the purposes of this course are the following: - expanding the professional, social and linguistic abilities of the participants and helping them grow on a personal level so they remain motivated and fulfilled in their day-to-day work ; - increasing the quality of the services offered by the participants and their organisations, for the benefit of many, especially young people and social entrepreneurs (services better suited to the actual needs, using active and collaborative methods to ease the participation of each person to the process of taking collective action, acknowledging their critical opinion and creativity and encouraging them to make use of their power and develop their civic awareness and engagement ; - assisting the workers in the field of social innovation, and especially youth and social workers in adopting a new and more diverse range of governance models and working methods ; - generating new connections and encouraging cooperation between European stakeholders actively promoting active citizenship and inclusive sustainable development throughout Europe.
