We propose to organise an exchange around composing and creating songs with both musicians and non-musicians participating together. We propose an exchange with 24 young people (6 from each country) and five leaders from four different countries: Poland, Armenia, Great Britain and France; many of these young people come from rural areas. We will organise song writing workshops using European themes/annual themes such as tolerance, or citizenship, or some other theme that interests the young people (for example a relevant theme could be forest fires and global warming - forest fires are a constant threat in our region in summer). The participants will choose the themes and then pick them out of a hat. Songs may be written in several languages to permit different forms of expression and different sonorities. These texts will be put to music and hopefully can be recorded or played during the exchange. The aims of the project are: To explore European themes through writing songs and poetry; To stimulate creativity and creative expression young people are often interested by these themes but don't have a chance to express themselves To acquire new skills and competences through workshops, games and interactions We believe that these activities will lead to the objectives of the European Agency, notably: - increased self-empowerment and self-esteem; - improved foreign language competences; - enhanced intercultural awareness; - more active participation in society; - increased sense of initiative and entrepreneurship; -increased motivation for taking part in future (formal/non-formal) education or training after the mobility period abroad. And that they will also acquire European awareness through meeting and working with young people from other countries After a period of planning via internet, and a planning visit, the activity will take place in July in Isle sur la Sorgue, an attractive small town in Provence for a week of activities. The week will open with ice breakers and get-to-know-each-other activities, and will continue with a series of workshops in groups of mixed nationalities designed to achieve the objectives given above, such as music, song writing, singing, percussions, music by computer, radio, et cetera. To add another intercultural dimension we can use traditional music to stimulate creativity and partners will be asked to bring examples with them. We have various techniques for stimulating writing workshops (pictures, key words, extracts of magazines and papers... ) and we will bring in talented local artists to help with these creations. The young people will prepare presentations of their organisations/ countries to show the other groups during intercultural evening, as well as bringing examples of food that other groups can discover. During the week there will also be visits to discover the area. The workshops will include round table discussions in mixed nationality groups on questions of music and citizenship, and other themes. The compositions will be made in mixed nationality groups and a concert will be organised during the week with local musicians. Participants will make new contacts and new friends; they will gain new skills and understand that Europe is made up of young people just like themselves, that there are differences but also similarities. We can create interest in, and visibility of this project through the concert and meetings with partners, local musicians and councillors. We hope that the participants will develop lasting links with the partner groups and will one day organise their own European meetings.
