Objectives

When one talks about participation, one assumes that vulnerable youth is not active. Their contribution to society ends up denied or invisible. However, in Y-E-N, we believe that vulnerable youth has a lot of potential. We observed among our communities, that they are incubators of initiatives and change for more inclusive societies. Through this project, we want to bring different layers of society together to claim that youth participation is real, effective and promising. One of our focus is that participation does not only mean the act of voting, but there are many different ways to participate actively in local communities. These alternatives are also the reasons why sometimes youth participation is not recognised; thus we will allocate time to define what participation means, in which ways it can be achieved and how to advocate for it. 2019 is also a year of elections for the EU Parliament. We will show that vulnerable youth needs to be taken seriously into account in EU politics by bringing our participants closer to the European institutions in our finale activity. We gathered member and partner organisations from Y-E-N to build on these ideas and that is how the project “Shake the Box!” is born. The aim of this project is to empower young people from vulnerable groups in making their participation in European society recognised, valued and appreciated. The objectives are: • To develop the capacity of member organisations in supporting participation of young people from vulnerable groups in European society; • To engage young people from vulnerable groups in local and European activities in order to become more active and confident; • To develop competences of young people from vulnerable groups in advocating for the recognition and value of their participation;
