Objectives

This Youth Workers Mobility project will gather in Lyon in October 2019 youth workers and volunteers from France, Turkey, Sweden, Spain, Italy, Hungary and Greece, around the topic of refugee integration via entrepreneurship. This project has been imagined by a group of volunteers and the Concordia Rhône-Alpes Development Manager, who have chosen to collaborate with a branch of the association SINGA in Lyon. This citizen movement was created in Paris in 2012, and it is nowadays present in 22 cities and 7 countries. SINGA’s objective is to facilitate the social, cultural, and professional integration of refugees. In Lyon, one of the tools that favours this integration process is the incubator FINKELA, which accompanies refugee and non-refugee project-promoters with the aim of encouraging co-existence and deploying the potential of the asylum economy. Since 2018, FINKELA escorts 2 groups of entrepreneurs behind 36 promising and innovative projects in different areas (art, fashion, culture, technology, catering, MedTech, professional integration…). In collaboration with SINGA Lyon, Concordia has decided to focus on entrepreneurship as a sustainable solution for the social integration and economic independence of refugees. Contrary to other activities purely recreational organised by SINGA (mentoring programme between locals and refugees, talent shows, sports), we believe that entrepreneurship has a more sustainable impact both for refugees and for the host society. The creation of local businesses can facilitate the apparition of job opportunities for refugees, but can also have positive economic and social impacts for the host society, through the dynamisation of a district’s life, the promotion of the local economy, and the creation of direct and indirect jobs. In fact, according to a SINGA’s report, in 2017 the FINKELA programme allowed for a reduction of 8.80 euros of the French state’s expenditure per day and for each fostered refugee. We are convinced that in order to regain the economic growth in Europe and fight against unemployment while creating decent jobs, it is necessary to invest in refugee integration and innovation, as well as to encourage a sense of business creation. The activities proposed during this training will be co-led by SINGA employers and Concordia’s trainers, and will be mainly divided in two types: - Non-formal education activities to create links between participants and the refugees associated to SINGA, reinforce group dynamic, and reflect upon the problems and solutions related to issues concerning migrant and refugee welcoming and their integration in the different partner countries of this project in a fun and creative way. - Activities led by SINGA aimed at raising awareness about entrepreneurship. These activities will offer participants theoretical and practical tools to discover the functioning of entrepreneurship, its opportunities and challenges, and will guide participants in the construction of their entrepreneurship projects. These projects will be aimed at enhancing the integration of refugees in the Lyon area. Refugees escorted by SINGA and who show an interest in entrepreneurship will be included in these activities. The main objective of this project is to foster the socio-economic integration of refugees via entrepreneurship. On the base of these main goals, the activities of this training aim at reaching the following specific objectives: 1. To deconstruct stereotypes about refugees. 2. To raise awareness about the social and economic challenges faced by refugees and migrants in general in their host societies. 3. To offer an open space for dialogues, testimonies, and exchanges between youth workers from different countries and the refugees. 4. To stimulate active participation and collective intelligence through participants’ and refugees’ joint reflection about solutions to facilitate refugee socio-economic integration at a local level. 5. To raise awareness about the functioning of entrepreneurship through a ludic approach. 6. To raise awareness among participants about entrepreneurship as a possible solution to fight against unemployment and social precariousness. 7. To stimulate the creation of strong intercultural and intergenerational ties between participants with different life paths. 8. To enhance tolerance and respect for diversity among participants, as well as among the local population. Deliverable tools, which will be created collectively during the training, will favour the dissemination of the results at a local level and in the different partner countries (video presenting participants’ fictive projects and an entrepreneur kit).
