With the advent of the social media, fakes news and alternative journalism have found easier ways to rapidly spread, to the point it is becoming more and more difficult to identify serious and reliable sources of information. Phenomenon of global dimension, the issue has the particularity of being especially relevant in both the European Union and in the countries of the Eastern Partnership. In the EU, disinformation have become a prominent weapon in the campaigns of parties located on the extremes of the political spectrums, and is notably often used to back-up anti-European arguments. In Eastern European countries, fake news and disinformation are often linked to Russian propaganda, but are also one of the most important and, on the long-term, socially harmful consequences of border/territorial conflicts (e.g. Georgia and Abkhazia/South Ossetia, Armenia/Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh, Ukraine and Crimea). Very active on social media and lacking the proper tools and experience to make the difference between objective and biased news, the youth is in the frontline of this information warfare. For this very reason, young people are a privileged target of radicalization, a crucial issue which exists both in Western and Eastern Europe. The specif objectives envisaged in the framework of this project are as follwos: - equping youth workers with tools and methods that will help them raise young people's media literacy, their knowledge on propaganda and the existence and use of single story narratives, and challenging the stereotypes having their sources in disinformation - promoting young people's activism and preventing their violent radicalization by developing follow-up projects on media literacy across Europe - to provide youth workers coming from both EU and Eastern Partnership countries with the adequate tools to raise young people's awareness concerning European topics and be more prepared to promote active youth citizenship - enhancing social inclusion of the at risk by increasing their defenses against disinformation, hate speech, stereotypes and discrimination. - streghtening the cooperation between EU and Easterpartnership youth workers and creating a network of activists ready to implement cross-European projects using non-formal educational methods to prevent youth radicalism
