By implementing the Project, we wanted to improve the subject curricula of the educational programs implemented in the school, namely: general, science and mathematics, natural science and language high school. In addition to improving the existing ones, we also wanted to create new subject curricula, especially in the field of STEM and ICT. The popularization of the mentioned areas is part of the strategic thinking at the national level, when it comes to propulsive activities, employment policy and improving the demographic image of our country. In order to achieve the set goals, it is necessary to additionally educate teachers who can become trainers for other colleagues in school councils, the Teachers´ Council, county and inter-county professional councils. In addition, the position of the headmistress of educational institution is not conditioned by previous education in the field of management, so any education of this kind would be welcome. The achievement of the above mentioned details would ensure a more modern and professional environment for school employees, and benefits for the students for whom we do everything in the first place. This activity guarantees a European dimension and opens the door to collaborations and partnerships with schools across the EU.
At the time of application of the Project in the Republic of Croatia, curriculums and programs from 1994 were very much outdated, and the education reform was in its experimental phase. The survey conducted among the students of our school showed that the success and the satisfaction of the students was evident and that it existed only in subjects in which different methods of teaching were practised, the students´ knowledge and skills were evaluated. As the outdated program generated outdated procedures, we considered it necessary to provide interested teachers with additional education. In this way, we would ensure a micro-reform within the school, and that would allow us to use the students´ capacities in a quality way, because Gimnazija Karlovac is attended by the best students from the area of the whole Karlovac County. The emphasis was not only on changes in teaching content, which teachers could choose autonomously, but also on teaching methods. In addition, interdisciplinarity should have been encouraged by building links between subject contents, which was underutilized, as well as the potential of optional classes because of which students could not always choose the field in which they were interested the most.
