Objectives

By implementing the project, we wanted to introduce new learning methods into pedagogical practice. The fact is that in the Republic of Croatia digital education, especially of the youngest, is on the margins and is not mentioned in the National Curriculum except through the strengthening of computer literacy, which is not applicable for children of early and preschool age. As we have long witnessed the use of technology in the wrong way and the consequences of such use, we wanted to act interdisciplinary on teachers, professional associates, parents, children and the community and point out the benefits of digital tools and methods. The emphasis is not only on the use of smartphones and computers, but also on the development of analytical thinking, project work, introduction of STEM methods in learning, educating parents about the benefits and harms of premature introduction of children into the virtual world. The changes brought to us by the digital revolution are not necessarily bad for the child's development, but on the contrary, they can bring many benefits to children, very quickly detect children deviating from the average in any way, in any direction, and make work easier for teachers.

Background

We applied for the project to continue the digital transformation of our institution. Our desire was to strengthen teachers' digital competencies to recognize, use and create acceptable and motivating digital solutions for working with preschool children, ie. to choose, create and apply digital learning methods and form higher education methods and create a quality, safe and stimulating digital environment. We wanted to transform into a modern institution that will serve as a lever and an example of good practice for others in the environment, how to combine learning, play and new digital challenges of the 21st century without violating the basic pedagogical premises. As Čigra Kindergarten is a strong driver of change in the educational community, we have knowledge and expertise in the field of preschool education, professional, highly motivated employees, we develop a quality service recognized by end users and partners and a developed network of external associates. This project brings positive results and it benefits our curriculum but also encourages others in initiating similar projects and changes.
