Objectives

Through the project, we wanted to improve the quality of vocational education in our school in such a way that students, working in an international environment, improve their professional competences and their language skills. We wanted to provide the students of the economy program with the opportunity to acquire competences in real companies within the framework of regular education, since their school curriculum does not include this. Furthermore, for the students of the tourism and catering program we wanted to organise practical work during the part of the year when most hotels and restaurants on the island of Krk are closed. For the students of the engineering program we wanted to help them acquire competencies necessary for the implementation and development of innovations in the field of energy efficiency by working on smart home systems. Through project implementation we wanted to further empower students for further learning and work, to make them confident in their own abilities and possibilities, and thus encourage them to continue with their personal development and growth.

Background

With the “Through experience to competence I” project application Hrvatski kralj Zvonimir High School wanted to successfully implement school's vision of an internationally active, adaptable, lifelong-oriented educational centre. With the Strategic Development Plan, the school has defined the path to internationalization which is the connection of national and international education systems with economy. Participating in the project was intended to enable students to acquire competencies that will have a direct effect on increasing their employability after school and competitiveness on the labour market in the local community, but also on the demanding EU markets. By applying to the project, we wanted to enable students to acquire new professional and linguistic competences, strengthen awareness of multiculturalism by encouraging mutual understanding among young people from different EU countries, develop a higher level of self-confidence and self-esteem, as well as independence and adaptability.
