The youth exchange “Power to Act” aims to contribute to the empowerment and emancipation of the sensitive group of young people by using the media of participative theatre. Our association, as well as our partners, has recognized the young group of adolescents (13 to 16 years old) as a particularly sensitive group, considering the process of transition between elementary and high school, which brings significant changes in various segments of life, including the academic, social, emotional and family life. Today young people face numerous challenges: long formal education, later and harder independence from parents/guardians, fast progress of technology and changes in market demands. Owing to that, the environment requires adaptability, team work, intercultural competencies and good social skills from them, while the formal education has not yet developed enough tools to develop such skills. The result of such imbalance is the extremely low percentage of youth that are socially and politically engaged. By selecting the mentioned issue, we would like to contribute to the personal development of the project participants, to the development of new and more efficient informal approaches to education which will be directed towards empowerment, emancipation and self-actualization of the young, which is also one of the goals of the Erasmus+ programme. The aim of the project is to train the participants to take responsibility and learn how to learn, thus enabling them to continuously grow their cognitive, social, emotional and work-action competencies, preparing them to take an active role, life-long learning and participating in social changes, which will contribute to the goals of the Erasmus+ programme related to initiative, active participation in society and intercultural awareness. Furthermore, the goal of the project is to exchange tools both with the participants and the project partners. Each of the partners has come up with some methods and tools which they use in their local community, and thus they will get the opportunity to teach others and learn from others. The participative theatre has been selected as the primary method. The method, based on games and simulations emphasizing individual decisions, is recognized as a valuable tool in the process of youth empowerment and emancipation. This is a widely applicable and flexible method, easily adaptable for different ages and spaces, therefore, it is suitable for intercultural surroundings and informal education, that the project leaders and the participants may continue to apply in their work and life after the project. By conducting the project in this way, in multicultural surroundings, the educators will have the opportunity to exchange experiences and tools, while the participants will expand their views about the conditions and life of their peers in other countries and surroundings.
