Objectives

For our students participating in the project is an excellent opportunity to pass on their experiences to other students when they return home thus reinforcing what they have learned. They motivate their fellow students to achieve better learning outcomes and encourage them to learn a foreign language in order to participate in projects. Get to know the work ethic abroad, the attitude to work, get acquainted with new working methods, tools, machines, have a better chance of getting a job, develop their professional knowledge and language skills. Let them learn to adapt, develop their social competences, learn to make decisions alone, be more independent. Another aim of the project was for our instructors to get a professional knowledge of the foreign vocational training system, how the training institutions cooperate with the companies providing the internship and how they form collaborations. Points of reference for possible future collaborations in areas that work very well should be studied and used as a good example. Our goal was to develop the foreign language competence of non-foreign language teaching colleagues and to increase the number of participants in the Erasmus+ program.

Background

Erasmus+ had a positive impact on the life of our school. Our purpose with the program is to modernise the skillset of our students, to shape their need for the language, to provide them with the opportunity to work abroad and to support them in overcoming their language barriers. The goals for our teachers are to get to know the structure of other institutions and places of work practice, to upskill their vocational training, to leverage good examples, to develop both their methodological culture and their competence for a foreign language and to establish new international relationships. The primary consideration in selecting a host institution was to establish a longer-term partnership with them in student mobilisation. We were aiming to visit corporations with various profiles to learn about their method of work practice and content curation. Developing different competencies was also our goal. Students learn to be more adaptive, independent and motivated by learning a language, social competencies and about other culture’s work ethic and style. Teachers and colleagues will be able to compare the ongoing vocational training in other countries, their cooperation with corporates and their professional development to their own.
