Objectives

The primary goal of this project was to make Davis College overall "European", "Cooperative" and a modern "Learning" institution. For the teachers of non-foreign language subjects, it meant learning about methods and possibilities for integrating European subjects into their teaching. We hoped that in the future they will be able to undertake European Erasmus+ projects or an eTwinning project. Another goal involved the sharing of ideas and pedagogical approaches to teaching and learning from similar and different cultures as well as the development and testing of new teaching methodologies and pedagogical strategies for use in the classroom. Through this project, we hoped to see evidence that ICT when used effectively in the school environment, has a positive effect on both student, teacher and the wider school environment. Through the Bett conference in London 2020 we aimed to look at learning platforms and mobile devices such as iPads and Chrome Books, laptops, apps for education, storage solutions and appropriate infrastructure to enhance pedagogy. Also, management platforms and the plethora of interactive whiteboards, 3D printers, holographic projectors and televisions.

Background

Davis College has set itself the goal of enabling students to shape their future on their own and to act purposefully in professional, social and private life. It is necessary to face the social and economic demands of Europe in the 21st century and react to changes. With regard to these goals, it is indispensable for the development of the school that all parties involved intensify their acceptance of the diversity of European cultures and nations, and that the graduates participate in the European market. This means that we want to empower the teachers of Davis College to consistently integrate the idea of Europe into the classroom and to enable them to exchange ideas about living and working worlds in other European cultures through transnational cooperation. As Davis College is an 'eTwinning school' we would like to strengthen this bond with other school networks in Europe. However, this requires the participation of as many teachers as possible. International work cannot and should not be limited to just a few. We would hope that with this project we can disseminate the results widely in Ireland and Europe. Already in our school we have a growing team and we now feel it is the time to increase participation further.
