In the implementation of this project it was hoped that we would see our learners embark on a more challenging learning experience which would see them acquire new skills in a less familiar work environment which would in turn aid their social and interpersonal skills development alongside their career development. Experiencing different cultural approaches to work was hoped to play a part in positively influencing their work ethic and enhancing their employability following graduation. Exposure of learners, from rural disadvantaged areas with little opportunity to travel, to various cultures would serve to improve cultural awareness generally dispelling cultural stereotypes and helping them identify better as European citizens. With a greater number of participants, natural dissemination would be improved by word of mouth alongside other established methods of dissemination. Through greater numbers of staff engaging in staff mobilities, it was hoped that new skills and methods would be observed and subsequently implemented within our own college setting, and involvement in the project would be promoted in class by teachers.
This project was applied for with a view to extending the opportunity to participate to over 20% of our student population, building on previous years' involvement and opening doors to those from a socio-economically disadvantaged region. The benefits afforded to past students was such that it was imperative that this character building and vocational opportunity would be available to a greater number year on year. This application sought to nurture current partnerships and develop new and relevant partnerships that would add value to the vocational, educational and personal development of our staff and learners. The inclusion of the Erasmus+ project in our provision also serves to expand our catchment in terms of enrolment as has been evidenced year on year in student feedback and enrolment figures. Access to alternative placements in other European countries and experts in our vocational areas enhance the value of the courses that we provide. Exposure to travel, other cultures and a variety of cultural work practices would serve to enable or students to identify as European citizens and expand their horizons.
