Some young people from Ireland took part in the youth exchange "Active, Get Healthy, Get Involved" which took place in Armenia in September 2018. On the one hand, the Armenians had never seen Irish people or interacted with them, they became curious to know more about Ireland, culture (Irish dance in particular) and heritage, how we have embraced diversity etc. On the other hand, the Irish participants were so much attracted to the sporting activities of the exchange and amazed by the locals' reaction. Both groups meet and came up with an idea to meet again with another subject to meet the needs of both groups. They decided to develop something that will entail an element of what brought them together promoting a healthy lifestyle but in another form "Dance" but with a bigger Irish and Armenian group. They also wanted their idea to have elements that will promote active citizenship; diversity and intercultural dialogue; which is in alignment with European Education and Training 2020 and the EU Youth strategy Policies. The group brought the idea to the Irish and Armenian leaders hence, we are supporting them in developing their project. The young people involved in developing this project include those with fewer opportunities, financial difficulties, refugees, those living in isolated & disadvantaged rural areas among others. The specific objectives are: - Promote healthy lifestyles among young people. -Promote by teaching Armenian participants basic rules of Hurling and Gaelic Football. - Promote tolerance, and Intercultural Dialogue - Increase their awareness of social issues and inclusion - Increase the social skills of the participants, their critical thinking, self-esteem, and decision-making skills. - Develop team-working skills through dance and music as a language for integration -Actively take part in social issues of their local communities Because of the difficulty in getting visa's the group decided to host the exchange in Armenia. Armenians are not that familiar with Irish culture, so this is a good opportunity to get acquainted with this culture during a real interaction with this culture holders. Most of the youngsters from Ireland who will take part in this project never had the opportunity to travel abroad and from the Armenian side, they had never had the opportunity to take part in international projects and communicate with someone from another cultural background. The overall aim of the exchange is that both the youth of our city as the partner country could experience another culture, another language and other customs (in a non-formal way), play as well as promoting the social skills necessary for a good relationship between participants, making it fruitful, decisive and important for their future, both professional (for the opportunity to learn another language, other possibilities, other work or study options, the option to acquire contacts that may be useful to them in experience future, etc.) and personal (by the possibility of meeting other people who otherwise could not have known and to discover their own skills that otherwise would not know). The project will take place from 17/7/2019 to 24/7/2019 in Armenia. The location of the project has already been chosen in Abovyan, ''Hin Parvana'' Hotel, which is a good place for creating a comfortable place for the youngsters to create and act. The project theme is dance, where Armenian and Irish participants can share their traditional dances with each other. They are going to learn a few Armenian traditional dances together with their history, what these dances include, how they are connected with the Armenian nation, what means the movements etc. At the same time, the Irish participants will learn Irish dances with their history and meaning. The participants will also have a space to create a mix of Armenian and Irish dance. It's going to be battle dance, which the participants are going to implement in Abovyan and Yerevan. Why we want to do in Abovyan, as it's a quite big town close to Yerevan, but still youngsters are isolated, especially the ones from the villages nearby, who study in Abovyan. This project can be a good chance also for them to get to know about Erasmus+ projects.
