Objectives

As mentioned already, the current conditions in combination with our experts and beliefs are the columns of our motivation to carry out this project. In more particular, we are taking into consideration the challenges faced by youth proved by research and reinforced by our own impressions and experiences. Young people at the moment are facing a number of challenges including unemployment, lack of trust and believe to institutions and traditional forms of civic participation followed by global hot issues that affect everyone; a crisis of values, environmental destruction, radicalization and a non-critical use of technologies leading to one hand a confusion from the amount of contradicting messages and alienation from traditional ways of connecting and communication with each other. We see social entrepreneurship as the form to tackle multiple of those issues at the same time. A personal development of young people through soft skills workshops, an understanding on how economy works with a focus on how economy “could” work when from economy to turn it into social economy. Around 10% of the European Union GDP is from social economy creating millions of jobs, supporting the local, national and European economy while at the same time social (from local to global) issues are tackled Someone called social entrepreneurship “a different way of doing business” and through our experience and values we see it a win-win approach to creating responsible citizens who have access to economic participation but also to active citizenship. The above, combined with the results we have seen from previous relevant projects and the expertes we have developed through advanced training modules is our motivation to implement this project in a way that we can ensure a positive impact and multiplication. The project consists of two activities with a clear connection and logical flow of development. We have mentioned the over-all expected learning outcomes above but below we are breaking down the two events with detail of specific competences, tools approaches. However, first, we would like to describe the methodology used in order to achieve our target. The content and the methodology is the responsibility of the two trainers who both have proved experience in social entrepreneurship through their membership in relevant pools of researchers and trainers (Council of Europe Youth Researchers, Pool of Trainer of National Agencies Strategic Partnership on entrepreneurship, Pool of Trainer of British Council on Life Skills Training (including social entrepreneurship, Founders and Managers of Businesses and Social Economy Associations). At the same time, they have proved experience within non-formal and experiential learning, including Erasmus + Youth (Hellenic, Cypriot and SALTO SEE Pools of Trainers, collaborations with TCA trainings and SALTO Participation & Information and SALTO Inclusion. The methodology used is based on the experiential learning cycle of Kolb giving an emphasis to the aspects of practicing new competences and tools within safe spaces but also the dimension of self and collective reflection as the space where learning outcomes become more evident and conscious. Nonetheless, we need to mention that the tools used will include a series of energizers, ice breakers and team dynamic related exercises, working groups of different sizes and forms promoting mirroring and peering, interactive presentations, role playing and simulations and reflection/assessment techniques. We are considering a methodology that will be addressing different learning styles but also extrovert and introvert involvement approaches. Finally, the trainers carry a resource of tools and methods that allow them to be flexible to address individuals and group needs and even make quick changes through own initiative or participatory approaches according to circumstances.
