Our Project is called FULL STEAM AHEAD. The motivation for this project was when all six coordinators met while attending a Study Visit in Bergen, Norway in the autumn of 2018. The study visit was about the promotion of digital literacy in early years education. The six teachers from Ireland, Norway, Spain, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia decided that they would work together on a KA229 project on this topic. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) is our emphasis and digital literacy is our approach. Our main objective is to train to use more digital tools in our teaching and create more digitally inspired learning experiences for our pupils through which they will engage in all five elements of STEAM. We are looking to enhance the best traditional teaching with digital experiences and enhancements. We will train at each school we visit in a new form of digital media. We will then return to our own teaching and traint he rest of our staff in the new media tools. We will then roll this our throughout our schools for our pupils to engage with. We will be building competence and confidence amongst our staff and pupils with a variety of new digital media to incorporate into our daily lives in our schools. Our programme: Short Term Joint Staff training Events: Year One September 2019 Kristiansand, Norway Decemeber 2019 Sligo, Ireland February 2020 Riga, Latvia Year Two September 2020 Malag, Spain January 2021 Kuršėnai, Lithuania April 2020 Tallinn, Estonia Four schools are Kindergarten schools. The Irish and Spanish schools are primary schools and the Spanish school has also pre-primary pupils. The Irish and Spanish schools will also have pupil exchanges in the summer term of each year of the project. May 2020 A group of 10 pupils with 2 teachers from Ireland will go an on exchange to Spain for one week A group of 10 pupils with 2 teachers from Spain will go on an exchange to Ireland for one week. May 2021 A group of 10 pupils with 2 teachers from Ireland will go an on exchange to Spain for one week A group of 10 pupils with 2 teachers from Spain will go on an exchange to Ireland for one week. Between the six schools, this project will be a great opportunity for all the teachers and pupils to benefit from the STEAM opportunity of upskilling and developing their digital media skills integrated into teaching and learning. Here is a list to show the list training activities and where and when they will each take place: September 2019 - Norway Mini-projector January 2020 - Ireland Beebots March 2020 - Latvia Lightbox October 2020 - Spain Green Screen February 2021- Lithuania Music and Technology May 2021 Estonia - Ozobots, Lego Robotics, Dash & Dot Wonder Numbers of staff and pupils who will be involved in this project in all schools: Norwegian School: 26 Staff; 114 Pupils. Irish School: 16 Staff; 202 Pupils. Latvian School: 48 Staff; 280 Pupils. Spanish School: 36 Staff; 657 Pupils. Lithuanian School: 26 Staff; 158 Pupils. Estonian School: 45 Staff; 245 Pupils. Benefits of this Project: Pupils and staff will learn so much about life in other countries. They will learn we are all different but also the same. Our teachers and pupils will learn more skills and have more varied learning experiences. As well as being trained in more digital teaching and learning media, our staff will see how it is in schools in five other countries. They will return to their home school with many new ideas and competences. They will train their colleagues and then their pupils will benefit from new skills and learning experiences. Each of our partner schools will have a mascot for the duraton of the partnership. This teddy will have a name and a personality and a diary/passport. Each teddy will spend a few months at a partner school before moving on to visit another one. During the 24 months of the project, each mascot will have spent some months in its own school and the five other partner schools. The children will play with it and include it in their activites both at school and at home. Some of this will be documented in the physical diary and more of it will be uploaded and shared digitally online. This can then be accessed by many more online. Our pupils and staff will get to see in another way what it is like to go to school in another country. Not all staff will get the opportunity to travel so this is a nice way to share experiences. The pupils who will travel to a partner school will be the primary pupils from the Irish and Spanish schools. (The other four schools are kindergartens and therfore those pupils are too young to travel!) This is a nice way for he pupils to see what it is like to go to school and live in a country other thatn their own. The digital diary will compose of videos, photos and podcasts and will be on the prohect website which will be linked to on each of the schools' websites and social media pages.
