Objectives

The main objective of the project was to create an opportunity for participants to learn about the latest development and trends in strategic work at school libraries. We believe that the increased knowledge of school library professionals increases professionalism and career development becomes greater. Through our participation in the project participants got first hand experience of new developments in school libraries which include the increased emphasis on the integration of information technology.

Background

The project was led by the central office of the Department of Education and Youth in the city of Reykjavík and the consortium consisted of 6 primary schools from Reykjavik. The organizers and participants in the project have worked for many years in schools and school libraries in Reykjavik. We applied for this project because we had read good things about school libraries in Sweden. All of the participants have worked in school libraries and all of them have good programs for the pubils. But seeing what other professionals are doing and that they are willing to share new things with us. Especially what has been working well is so valuable.
