Objectives

We wanted our students to get an experience in both school environment and at workplaces in another European country. An experience that would increase their motivation in their field of study. Also we wanted this experience to give them insight into a different culture and a different school system then what they are used to back home. We wanted this experience to serveprepare our students for participation in working life and for further studies. We want to expand the students´ horizon and give them the opportunity to experience their profession in different circumstances than they are used to in our school and in their workplaces as apprentices in Ísafjörður and vicinity.

Background

We applied for this project to give our students the opportunity to increase their knowledge in their field of metal working and thereby increase their employability in a greater context. It is in our opinion very important for students from a small town in the northwest part of Iceland, to get the opportunity to gain perspective and experience learning and get to know working conditions in another European country. It was also our goal to give our students the possibility to increase their intercultural awareness by working and learning abroad. Furthermore the application was meant to give Menntaskólinn á Ísafirði an opportunity to share information with our cooperating hosting partner, the EUC-Lillebælt vocational school and thus learn to know more about a different school system and different focuses in education.
