EN ROUTE main purpose was to enhance and foster the dissemination of skills knowledge in the sport and tourism sector, by promoting visibility as a condition for the validation and certification of sports tourism related jobs at European level. Therefore, it focused on: - Improving the entrepreneurial skills of human resources active in the sports sector for the development of a new cross-sectoral professional profile with managerial skills, networking abilities and a proactive attitude - Stimulating the definition of efficient approaches for the promotion of the territorial potential as well as of sustainable and accessible tourism - Creating new strategic networks among stakeholders and implementing permanent collaboration for the innovation of tourism services
Despite sport has been recognised as a labour-intensive sector, its innovation potential to boost employability still meets the following questions: - The majority of graduates in the sport field in Europe obtain a final qualification in the Physical Education branch, while sport management and outdoor animation represent only a small category. Moreover, the mismatch between training path and job opportunities in the tourism field is responsible to impede innovation. - Skills shortage both in technical and transversal competences of European sport profiles. Sport training path particularly do not integrate the teaching of life skills such as empathy, efficient communication, critical thinking, creative thinking, problem solving, teamwork. A good balance between transversal skills and job-specific knowledge remains a challenge. - Discrepancy between European skill levels and the uneven recognition of skills and qualification across Member States. This is especially more evident in the shortage skills’ recognition and validation of sport job profiles in National Catalogue of Occupational Standards. This gap continues to impede career development and European mobility despite a strong demand for learning mobility in the sport sector.
