Objectives

The objectives of our action plan were: 1. To strengthen, consolidate and improve the English language and communication skills of staff (teachers but also administrative assistants) to promote and implement a European dimension of education. Currently only a few teachers in the Institute have adequate competences in L2; 2. Learning new teaching methodologies - to cope with the complexities of heterogeneous and multicultural classes and to stem the phenomenon of school drop-outs (school failure in our school is significant due to the considerable presence of BES pupils, pupils who have special educational needs due to their learning mode and their family and social context). - to foster the INCLUSION and the LEARNING SUCCESS of non-Italian-speaking FOREIGN students (also to face the social emergency constituted by the arrival of MIGRANTS or REFUGEES in the European Union in recent years); 3. Effective use of ICT in the teaching-learning process to favour the co-building of learning aims; 4. TRAINING TEACHING AND NON TEACHING PERSONNEL (from an LLL perspective) able to promote and implement a EUROPEAN DIMENSION of education, through the use of English as a Community vehicular language; 5. Promoting the EUROPEAN DIMENSION OF EDUCATION, through the knowledge of different European school systems and the exchange of good practices, innovative teaching and school management methods; The use of the skills learnt will make the teaching proposal more qualitative in linguistic and methodological terms.

Background

ITFS - "International training for success" is a two-year project (2019-2021), later extended to three years because of the pandemic. This project came into being from the real training needs of our school to activate a process of modernisation, internationalisation and strategic development of the European dimension. New teaching and learning methods challenge the traditional roles and responsibilities of teachers, trainers and other learning facilitators. That’s the reason why we felt it necessary to develop their training to ensure that they are sufficiently motivated and able to meet the new challenges. The times we live in, in fact, call for careful consideration of current socio-cultural macro-trends: - globalisation requires a better command of foreign languages; - communication makes adequate literacy indispensable; - the ever-expanding migratory flow demands the need for a proper intercultural education. That’s why we the need to adapt the professional skills of our staff to a changing society, which uses new languages and information tools, which becomes multicultural, which changes cognitive styles, through participation in structured courses, training/refresher courses and partnerships with other European schools. Therefore collaboration with teachers from other countries and attending LINGUISTIC COURSES, METHODOLOGICAL COURSES, STUDY VISITS and JOB SHADOWING have contributed to increase the motivation and skills of the school's staff and to give the entire institute during the dissemination phase a greater European and international perspective. Participation in European projects thus has become an indispensable opportunity to increase skills and to train students to multiculturalism and positive exchange between cultures.
