Objectives

The main objective was to meet and experience an innovative, technological, flexible teaching in the face of the demand for skills of the new generations, going beyond the traditional transmission of knowledge, able to reach today children accustomed not so much to the use of textbooks as digital devices, limit school dropout and stimulate the motivation of pupils; to put teachers in contact with other realities and trigger the desire to improve their professionalism through comparison; start new collaborations between European teachers, lasting longer than the life of the project itself, for the exchange of materials and experiences. Bring a breath of fresh air to the school; add a professional challenge that involves students and allows them to glimpse a wider space for future action; reconsider the use of the English language in European communication, also through collaborative projects on the digital platform Etwinning, improve the CLIL offer but also take a step forward from the idea of CLIL, which remains a challenge in the Italian school and whose design can be a valuable tool.

Background

The Liceo da Vinci in Floridia, where I started teaching in 2018 with a good experience in Erasmus design and participation in Erasmus projects, strongly wanted to start this experience. It’s a provincial school but growing and with strong ambitions. It is proposed as a valid alternative to local schools by offering a varied, comprehensive and international training. Openness to European horizons was and is seen as a valid key to understanding training objectives. Pupils declare an interest in opportunities to study and work in Europe; teachers, individually, need to confront new methodologies and seek new strategies of intervention for the new generations of students. The demand for participation in new projects is very high. Following this type of request, I proposed the training of staff on innovative teaching, adding experiences of support to school work in other European countries, preceded by the necessary consolidation of the English target language.
