Objectives

From the implementation of this project we have foreseen the improvement of the English language, digital and didactic skills of all the participating staff. It was a fundamental objective to strengthen and improve interpersonal relationships, collaboration and harmony within the School. Furthermore, the interdisciplinary teaching activity has become valid and effective with a positive impact within the school community. Through our partners we wanted to look for companies and entrepreneurs able to provide our students with the opportunity to activate internships abroad and get a job in the future. Our intention was also to continue the process of internationalization of the school started previously. The detailed objectives we wanted to achieve are: - Acquiring English language skills, tools and methods to activate CLIL activities. - Improving our school system, educational strategies, organization by comparing with those offered by our partners and find new contacts. - Acquiring a digital competence and use new tools.

Background

The Secondary School "IIS Della Corte Vanvitelli" - Cava de 'Tirreni, applied for the KA1 Skilled Staff project before the pandemic, in 2019. The launch of the project was preceded by an in-depth preliminary analysis which highlighted the needs of our school community (teachers, administrative staff and learners). The envisaged actions (staff mobility for teacher training and job shadowing) have contributed not only to continue with teacher and staff training activities, but also to start partnerships with other European schools for subsequent group mobility of school pupils. The main factors for the launch of this project are to be attributed to the idea of a “European Development Plan” aimed at continuing actions such as group activities for students, the activation of the KA120 accreditation project, cooperation projects through the key action 2 and, finally, the so-called internship in European companies. It is known that the improvement of language skills of school staff contributes to the creation of future projects through new contacts and triggers new relationships for future collaborations. As a matter of fact, competent teachers in English, not only can effectively support jobshadowing activities as a host school, but can offer a profitable contribution during student mobility abroad as adult supervising student activity. In analyzing the needs of the teaching and administrative staff, we found that the weaknesses and training needs of the staff and many teachers teaching technical or Scientific subjects, were above all related to the use of the English language, therefore there was a real need for adequate linguistic preparation in English. The request was to improve the knowledge and skills of teachers of other subjects, but also to strengthen the English language teachers themselves. The Project has offered the possibility of creating a cohesive teaching group that will be able to carry out CLIL activities in the last classes. The acquisition of digital skills, the comparison of teaching methodologies and the management of other school realities was also interesting and equally useful. By observing the organization and management of partner organizations, we have not only enriched our school community with new stimuli, but also improved the skills of all staff.
