By implementing this project we wanted to promote the use of innovative and inclusive methodologies for the well-being of our students. We were looking for new strategies and more effective working methods to meet out all learning styles, in order to promote inclusion and academic success. We wanted to stimulate the development of social skills, especially aiming at respect for diversity and the ability to dialogue. We wanted to broaden our horizons to accept the new 21st century school demands. We wanted to deepen the practices of "team-work", for example the learning of team work, both in the preparation, implementation and dissemination of the project. Furthermore, we also wanted to implement the linguistic mastery of teachers of non-linguistic subjects, in order to learn to collaborate through CLIL paths that involve teachers of different subjects. Some teachers interested in drama projects wanted to take part in structured courses related to acting in order to develop a creative thinking through role plays, improvisation even in L2 so as to recognize and express emotions, ideas and thoughts.
We decided to apply for this project because we found some areas within our three-year academic plan that were still weak. They had to be strengthened, integrated and developed through an action aimed at training teachers. This meant we had to look for innovative educational agencies and schools regarding teaching methodology to compare and reach a personal enrichment, which could then be shared with the other colleagues of the project team and with all the staff of our Institute. We wanted to learn how to build more innovative and effective CLIL paths. Furthermore, the comparison with European schools that we would have visited through job shadowing experiences would have meant that teaching a foreign language would open us up to an internationalization dimension. Finally, to make our students feel like European citizens, we had to put ourselves out through a team work first with our colleagues and then with the European colleagues, in order to broaden our horizons and develop the key competences indicated by the European Union such as learning to learn, spirit of initiative, awareness and cultural expression.
