Objectives

In our opinion innovative teaching might be the result of comparing ourselves to other school realities ( above all the northern european ones) to get inspired from. Unfortunately our staff did have poor skills in English except for the L2 teachers. This strongly limited teachers capability of getting updated on international educational platform, of interacting with visiting colleagues from abroad and participating in teachers exchanges. That is the origin of our intention of increasing the number of teachers with B2 level skills in English. One of our goals was to cover our need for Clil teaching, involving different subjects according to the different courses. Beside the linguistic goal, we also had the methodological one: improving teaching style means improving teacher-student approach and the learning processa as a result. Some teachers were headed towards methodological courses: since they were given in English, those teachers were able to make some practice in English communication. Finally we wanted to widen our school network in order to make our students and teachers more likely to participate in international exchanges.

Background

Our teaching staff is composed by teachers with a long length of service. In the Improvement Plan there was and there is highlighted the need of updating the teaching style in general and the linguistic skills in English, so that Ss' basic skills could improve. We do have some difficulties in covering our needs about Clil because of the lack of experienced and qualified teachers in Clil. In general our lyceum does have a traditional organisation and way to work on teaching. Renovating school space and school time might improve the teacher-student relantionship so that learning might improve as well. To compare ourselves and look for inspiration we participated in some strategic partnership but for the already mentioned reasons only few teachers were involved. We also wanted to increase our capability of writing projects to meet teachers’ and students’ needs.
