Project summary

Extemporize your Educations is a project that wants to find teach in an innovative way how to express their knowledge, their culture and their personality and diversity. The aim of the project is to design a model of inclusive education that has as its object the development of transversal competences - social, inclusive, relational - and to use the tools of sport and theater to allow young people to recognize themselves and consequently to recognize oneself in the world around them and communicate with others, using the best possible vehicle: one's body and emotions. So let them identify their limitations, treat them and above all recognize the value of the other and the space that covers not only the physical but above all the intellect: this is the basis for establishing civil and inclusive relationships. The initiative aims to create an innovative training model that allows students to strengthen and improve those personal skills and abilities that enable them to relate to the world around them. Thanks to a combined design of inclusive and transversal, sporting and theatrical / artistic actions, it is intended to create a personal added value and offer an innovative and collective observation of basic and transversal skills. An in-depth personal analysis, a careful study of soft skills and the types of language and expression used in education, sport and gaming together with their translation into English in the everyday world will enable students to understand the various worlds and communicate in different ways. Specifically, the project will insist on the following skills: • cognitive and methodological, developing innovative solutions to problem solving and searching for different opportunities and improving awareness, knowledge, coordination, perception and spatial, temporal and physical representation; • communication, providing the right tools and the correct parameters to be expressed also in different ways and with different languages, reaching the same result; • social and relational, providing the key methodologies and tools to be in a group, work effectively and in a shared way, gain awareness of lifestyles; • inclusive, which go beyond the strictly cognitive ones and promote the integration between the context and emotions, cultural devices and those materials.

Objectives

With the EYES project we wanted to develop a social inclusion methodology that allows the development of inclusive skills of young people. We wanted to include as beneficiaries of the project disadvantaged young people and the other persons who everyday interact with them, as these will be the ones who will actively promote the values of sharing, equality and non-discrimination. The objectives that the partnership aims to achieve through the implementation of the project are as follows: 1. to investigate the transversal needs of young people between the ages of 15 and 19; 2. to design an innovative and dynamic training model consisting of "inclusive" educational activities and practices conducted entirely in English; 3. to organize inclusive experiential workshops based on the psychophysical methodologies and language skills of the young people involved, 4. to support experiential actions to promote equal opportunities and social inclusion, 5. to disseminate the new EyES training model characterized by a new paradigm of reading special needs 6. to create a community of best practices at local, national and European levels in the long run, 7. to raise awareness of issues related to inclusion, non-discrimination and integration among young people, 8. to promote national and transnational cooperation to develop new tools and methods for the protection of human rights.

Background

The “Extemporize your Educations” project aimed to promote and support a new method of inclusive education that uses innovation to enable students to express their knowledge, culture, personality and diversity. The partnership designed and tested a comprehensive inclusive education model whose main purpose was to develop transversal skills-social, inclusive, relational-and to use the tools of sports and theater to enable students to recognize themselves and consequently better relate to the world around them and to others, using the best possible vehicle: their own bodies and emotions. Through the active involvement of schools and private facilities in the area, we have enabled different target groups of young people between the ages of 15 and 19 (at least 25 students from each partner country) to identify their own limitations, face them, and recognize the value of peers, each other, and the space that covers not only the physical but also the intellect. In this way, we believe we have built a good practice that forms the basis for establishing civil and inclusive relationships. The model combining inclusive and cross-curricular actions, sports and theater/art, aims to create personal added value and offer an innovative and collective observation of basic and cross-curricular skills. Through the locally targeted intervention, different worlds among adolescents and different modes of communication were included. Through the "Extemporize your Educations" project, the following results were achieved: - English language training and practice; - environmental technology for cooperation and active participation; - innovative and high-performance methodologies for the disadvantaged people; - new tools for addressing social, ethnic, linguistic and cultural issues; - shared process of "inclusive skills development" subject, which makes young people more aware of their value and acceptance toward others; - reduction of discriminatory practices; - increase the employability of young people through the enhancement of their soft skills; - implementation of cooperative work activities, team building, problem solving, conflict emotions; - inclusive workshop activities with innovative strategies and approaches; - reduction of early school leaving and understanding of the importance of learning from a job placement perspective more focused on personal and collective needs; - a transversal approach also in knowledge, acceptance of special needs and communication with people with physical, psychological and social disabilities; - knowledge of international education through the mobility of researchers. All these results were achieved to our full satisfaction despite the restrictions on mobility dictated by the pandemic. All partners worked in concert and in harmony on the creation of the training model. During the first phase (IO1), the interactive English-language inclusive training model was created, adapted to collective needs and expectations; the structure of the online course and the guidelines for writing the classes that structure the course were defined. In the second phase (IO2), environmental technologies for cooperation and active participation were defined; innovative and high-performance inclusive methodologies of disadvantaged individuals were identified; thereafter, the partners, each for their own given topic, populated the relevant online teaching section with instructive and stimulating scientific material. In the last phase (IO3), the most important one, each partner participated in the piloting of the model (online platform for training, workshop activities, and incoming and outgoing survey questionnaires) on designated student and teacher targets. Based on the results obtained, a high-performing and replicable final product was defined. In specific, the project training, insisted on the following skills: - cognitive and methodological, developing innovative solutions for problem solving and the pursuit of different opportunities and improving spatial, temporal and physical awareness, knowledge, coordination, perception and representation; - communication, providing the right tools and parameters to express also in different ways and with different languages, achieving the same result; - social and relational, providing the key methodologies and tools for being in a group, working effectively and in a shared way, gaining awareness of lifestyles; - inclusive, going beyond the strictly cognitive realm and encouraging the integration of context and emotions, cultural devices and materials.
