Objectives

We decided to confront each other during a youth exchange because we felt the need to understand our difficulties and try to bring out concrete ideas to be spread in our schools and universities to support our peers; no one at school or university has ever bothered to provide us with information or training about the internet and its risks, we have always had to develop our self-taught skills and for this reason we want to confront ourselves internationally and in a multicultural environment to understand our active role and how we can somehow influence the change in favor of a more responsible and conscious use of the internet and social networks avoiding and curbing phenomena of violence and discrimination that increasingly affect us young people, our peers and especially those who are weaker. The general objective of this youth exchange is, therefore, to undertake a concrete fight against discrimination and episodes of violence that take place through the Internet and social networks, episodes that are increasingly present and "close" in our everyday lives. To achieve this ambitious general objective, we have decided to reach three specific objectives through which it will be possible, in fact, to undertake a serious and concrete fight against discrimination and violence. The three specific objectives identified are, therefore: - to know and recognize the phenomena of violence and discrimination conveyed through the Internet, understand how they arise and how they spread, understand the role of social networks in the spread of these phenomena; - understand the value of differences in order to see them as enrichment and not as an obstacle; what value do differences (gender, social, religious, etc.) have in modern society? How to promote them so that they do not make "fear"? - to know and carry out concrete local actions (meetings, campaigns, etc.) to increase awareness and knowledge in order to prevent and stem the phenomena of violence and discrimination. We have decided to take action with this project because the needs found in our territories are mainly linked to the need to make known to most people the beauty of diversity in order to promote respect for human rights by developing in our peers a sense of tolerance and acceptance that needs to be enriched with elements from the direct experiences of other young people from other countries. In this regard, as illustrated above, we have built the patenariat involving countries that are part of the transit corridors of migrants and that in recent years have experienced on their own the experience of migration and have had to face discriminatory and violent phenomena in everyday life. About 8 out of 10 young people in Europe regularly use the Internet and have free access to social networks (source Eurostat) and such a large figure has led us to reflect on how the development of new technologies and the spread of the Internet, today, have reached very high levels of the youth population and how we ourselves are the direct protagonists of the consequent evolution of social relations, knowledge and friendships that are born and are "managed" more and more often through the Internet and social networks. With reference to this analysis, therefore, we realized that even the phenomena of violence and discrimination today are mostly transmitted through the network and we decided to take this path because all of us have found, in our territories of origin, phenomena of discomfort related to an incorrect use of the Internet with the consequent phenomena of discrimination and violence (cyberbullying, racial discrimination, sexual and religious). In our cities there are many stories of discrimination and violence online and all together we decided to carry out this project to better understand our role, exchange good practices and advice to make them available (through the organization of field events) with our friends and peers in order to spread the good practices discussed during the youth exchange.
