Youth work is strongly based on human relationships and mediation. Youth workers bring a great part of their identity and values in their work and daily challenge themselves with groups of youth with different cultures and backgrounds, attitudes and values. Everyday they also can have to deal with unexpected situations, deal with mistakes and with the need to find the balance between their own needs and values and the ones of the groups, colleagues and institutions . It’s a hard job. It requires inner skills and capacities like self- care, self-awareness on own needs, stress management, dealing and learning by mistakes, cope with unexpected situations and coping mechanisms. It’s very common in this field, like in all the jobs connected with human relationships, hearing about burn-out, especially when the attitude to self-awareness and self-care is not developed in the individuals and where the net of support is not cared. With this project we want to create a comfortable and calm space where youth workers, especially those who have faced moments of crisis, burn-out and stress, can reflect on their role, needs and resilience; we want also to provide them with deep but practical methods and tools (NVC, Transactional Analysis, Empathy,..) for recovering balance with themselves and with the target groups in their work in order to recognise the symptoms of burnout and demotivation and be supportive also once at home with their colleagues. We think that an habit to self-care and empathy can open to care and empathy towards the other- especially towards those young people with problematic background and difficulties, especially with those with a violent attitude. The sessions will be centered on some methods and tools with theoretical basis and much practice and exercises on these ones. The learning will be as much as possible experiential, in the real meaning, as an experience of the feelings, in the relationship with the self and the group.. Objectives: 1. Improve youth workers self-awareness and competencies (clear, ethic and empathic communication with individuals and groups, healthy relationships management, Non violent communication, face unpredictable situations, stress management,..); 2. Enhance the wellness and the self-care of Youth workers focusing on tools and methods preventing burnout and taking in account the person on the intellectual, emotional, mental, physic and spiritual levels; 3. Empower participants self-care and empathy to let them embrace care and empathy towards the other- especially towards their young people with problematic backgrounds and difficulties, mainly with those with a violent attitude. 4. Improve youth work quality providing the participants with space to reflect on their hard role of intercultural and social mediators, and constructively reflect upon their previous experiences of crisis, burnout and demotivation on their work and role; 5. Experience non-formal learning processes and understand the value of “failures” and mistakes in learning (and life) and being able to pass it to their youth groups; 6. Strengthen participants’ and organisations’ competences and capabilities in youth work with international dimensions and cooperation and new partnerships; 7. Enhance non-formal education methods and the recognition of NFE learning (output production: videos on training sessions and Training curricula).
