Objectives

The project "Inclusion Café - Discussing migrants, asylum seekers and refugees' integration in local communities" arises from the need of Social Domus to confront with European realities on the issue and challenges of inclusion and integration of third countries citizens, in particular young asylum seekers and refugees, in the local community. This is today necessary and fundamental in a society, the Italian one, which from all national and European surveys is still one of the most racists: of the 2,652 incidents of discrimination detected by the UNAR in 2016, 69% - more than 1800 - concerns discriminatory facts for racial reasons, with an average of 5 per day. To these are added the hate crimes detected by the Odihr: out of 555 (2015), 369 are related to episodes of racism and xenophobia. And there are also the 101 cases of racism (2016) reported by civil society organizations. It also becomes necessary in an increasingly intercultural and multicultural Europe, which is struggling to find a common response to the challenges of integration and inclusion of third-country nationals in its territory, and where racism and discriminatory populisms and drifts advance dangerously. The "Inclusion Café" project therefore stems from the need to give life to new initiatives and thus support the battle for equality and renew an increasingly strong, stubborn and obstinate commitment against all forms of inequality and racism. We want to do it in a city, our city Alessandria, where racist and populist drifts are equally strong on the one hand than the responses of civil commitment by the population (anti-racist parades, citizens on the streets alongside migrants and refugees, initiatives and associations that promote interculturality, and much more). And we want to do so with the aim of creating spaces, moments, opportunities and conditions for a shared, open and transparent citizen dialogue, in which to share ideas and best practices and to build together innovative, effective and sustainable solutions. The overall objective of the project is therefore to contribute to the sharing and testing of effective, innovative and sustainable practices of integration and inclusion of young migrants, asylum seekers and refugees in local communities and in Europe. Instead, specific objectives of the project are: - Explore the current context on local practices and measures to foster the integration and inclusion of young people from third countries, assessing their effectiveness, impacts and sustainability - Strengthen cooperation between youth organizations and local actors for the exchange of good practices and the promotion of sustainable approaches and tools for inclusion that respond to the direct needs of local communities and young migrants and refugees - Start a constructive, continuous, proactive and cross-sectorial dialogue on the issues of integration and inclusion of third-country nationals, fostering and promoting opportunities for meetings, discussions and dialogue between all the actors involved - Analyse and test practices and tools for inclusion and empowerment of young migrants, asylum seekers and refugees in the reference areas, networking knowledge, experiences and resources - Promote the development and quality of non-formal education and youthwork for social cohesion and inclusion and contribute to the dissemination of practices of youth work / non-formal education in activities and projects related to the integration of citizens of third countries The need to build the project on a transnational level is given by the fact that we believe in the potential to build wide-ranging cross-border partnerships, which can give OTHERS a perspective and point of view on the reality and daily practices in which we operate. Besides the fact that Europe must be able to face this situation in a united and sustainable way, starting from many of the countries involved (Italy, Greece, Germany), by creating positive synergies across Europe, we want to strengthen the role of youth organizations and civil society, and the role of youth workers, to propose innovative and sustainable solutions to a common challenge, transforming what is perceived today as a problem in a shared resource .
