Objectives

We want to foster young people reflection on themselves and their cultural background, understand their values and what they stand for, as well as their dreams and ambitions, we also want them to explore the roots of prejudice, discrimination and racism, understanding how the right of freedom of expression is very important but it is not an absolute right. It is limited by the respect of the human rights and reputation of others. We want the participant to deconstruct visual narratives that promote a real “advocacy of hatred” - mainly based on ethnic, sexual orientation and religious discrimination - that has become a serious threat to the democratic values of Europe and the EU. We want the participants to understand how visual narratives can also be used to counter the effects of online hate speech. Ultimately, we want to empower young people to speak up for their rights and the rights of their community, recognizing the importance of being active citizens of the EU and to reject any form of discrimination. The objectives of this exchange are: 1) Help young people explore their identity as individual and citizens of their own community, of their Country and of Europe; 2) Create tolerance and mutual understanding; 3) Understand the roots and learn to identify online hate speech and how to counter it; 4) Promote media literacy and digital citizenship to support youth participation in Internet governance and active citizenship.
