Objectives

Annual surveys of students revealed that they were not motivated by traditional classes and desired innovations and game-based activities. Analysis of documents and reflection of education process showed that students’ results were gradually deteriorating. In addition, the gymnasium needed to establish new connections for international cooperation in order to implement the model of a European school. The AIM of the project was to find ways how to increase students’ learning motivation and improve their learning results as well as to successfully implement the model of a European school. The project aimed at adopting good experience of other countries. It was assumed that teachers’ participation in the project and international training could improve their English skills so that they could join international activities, learn from good practices of other countries, establish new connections with foreign schools; the project was supposed to provide teachers a possibility to gain knowledge and practical skills on how to give lessons in an attractive way and what game-based techniques could be used to involve students in the learning process; how to efficiently create, integrate and apply ICT and game-based techniques in lessons.

Background

The main reason of applying for the project was deteriorating students’ learning motivation and decreasing learning quality. After long discussions in work groups as well as analysing the findings of the students’ survey it was decided that the problem could be solved by investing into training of teachers since students are encouraged to learn by innovative teachers, who adopt good practices of teachers from Lithuania and other countries. In previous Erasmus KA1 project we found out that participation in international courses provided teachers a possibility to get acquainted with the innovative methods for applying CLIL and ICT widespread in other countries, which has been regarded as efficient by school students. However, not enough teachers could make use of the possibility and, therefore, it was decided that the new project could provide a possibility to develop both digital and pedagogical competences while learning abroad for more gymnasium teachers whereas development of English skills could establish a more favourable conditions for teachers to participate in international training and make new connections with foreign schools. This could contribute to implementation of the European school model in the gymnasium.
