Objectives

The goal was to increase the quality of adult learning by improving the competences in three areas: Enabling adult learning, strengthening of adult learners self-governance; Methods and forms of working with groups of different learning needs, motivation and previous learning experience; Providing advice, career, life, further education and professional support. Tasks of the project: To improve the andragogic mastery of the participants, developing the ability to apply andragogic principles, acquiring new work methodologies, integrating them into training programs. To develop participants' abilities to creatively apply traditional and non-traditional forms of work with adults. To strengthen the participants' abilities to prepare distance and mixed education programs. The following horizontal goals were pursued: To compare the available experience of andragogic methodologies with the experience of European adult educators; Get to know how the andragogic principles are applied in European adult education institutions, what is their influence on the quality and empowerment of adult learning; To establish cooperative relations with European adult education institutions; To increase international awareness of their institutions.

Background

For 30 years, the Lithuanian Adult Education Association (LAEA) has been fostering the andragogic and managerial competences of its staff and, being an umbrella organization, the andragogic and managerial staff of its members. Strengthening this line of activity, LSŠA and its members created a consortium and prepared the project "Adult Educator's mission: to give wings to the learner". The project was prepared in response to today's requirements for a modern adult educator, which are defined in strategic education policy documents of the European Union and Lithuania (e.g. "State Strategy of Education 2013-2022", Development Program of Non-Formal Adult Education and Continuing Education 2016-2023). The essence of the project is to reduce the threat identified in the strategic documents: as the demand for adult education increases, there may be a shortage of adult educators with a high level of andragogic competences, as the quality of education of adults directly depends on them.
